⚡ A fault hidden in plain sight…

While carrying out a caravan service this week, routine electrical testing highlighted an open earth fault on the mains supply.

With the fault identified, the next step was to trace the cause. Investigation led back to the customer’s 13A mains adapter lead where, after dismantling the plug, the earth conductor was found to be disconnected.

From the outside, the adapter looked perfectly fine.

This is exactly why a thorough service involves much more than visual checks. Testing can uncover faults that would otherwise go unnoticed and helps ensure caravans remain safe to use.

This one was a little different in Ipswich this week.

The customer had an issue with their E&P self-levelling system, but unfortunately a previous repair attempt had left a snapped bolt seized in place and made a bit of a mess of the hydraulic ram

After some careful extraction work, I managed to remove the broken bolt without damaging the hydraulic ram further. With the damaged components beyond saving, a new foot plate and mounting bracket were fitted before reassembling and testing the system.

It’s often the jobs that look simple on the surface that end up taking the most time, but it’s always satisfying getting a system back working properly again.

Just a little one from today’s service.

The friction pads in this stabiliser hitch had reached their wear limit and were due for replacement.

These pads play an important role in reducing snaking and improving towing stability, but they’re often overlooked by owners.

A quick check of the wear indicator showed they were due replacement, so a new set was fitted and the stabiliser is now back to working as intended.

It’s another good example of why a thorough annual service is about much more than just wheel bearings and brakes.

This gas hose was found during a service today.

From a distance it looked perfectly serviceable, but a closer inspection showed the outer cover had become badly cracked and perished.

Gas hoses are a service item and should be inspected regularly for signs of age, cracking or damage.

It’s exactly the sort of thing that’s easy to miss, that’s why a thorough annual service is so important.

Another Alde fluid change carried out this week 🔧

Fresh heating fluid fitted and the system bled through properly ready for the customer’s future trips away 👍

Alde fluid often gets overlooked, but keeping it in good condition helps protect the heating system and maintain proper circulation.

A bit of an odd one from this week 🤢🔧

Customer reported poor water pressure — ended up finding a build up of sludge blocking the pipework.

Managed to clear the system out by pumping air through it for now, but I’ll be back next week to replace the tap and pipework properly 👍

Sometimes these pumps can be freed off and saved, but this one was seized solid so a replacement was fitted 👍
