oted his customers' requirements on his paper shirt cuffs! This primitive paperwork was obviously successful and John's business soon outgrew the front room of his house. Other premises were therefore acquired in St. John’s Street and Sir Isaac’s Walk. In a slight diversion from furniture, grapes growing in the greenhouse were sold over the counter for a halfpenny a pound during the Great War. The business continued to grow with more members of the family becoming involved. Hatfields relocated to the site of an old confectionery business, C W Hancock, in St Botolph’s Street in 1963 and then to its current buildings in Peartree Road in 1975. Today we employ over 65 staff and offer a superb array of furniture, including top brands. Good customer service is the difference between a flourishing store with happy customers and one that is empty and forgotten.
