“Rosie’s a femoid. A deluded Becky who thinks she can bag a Chad”.

Rob doesn’t know what Dave is talking about. All he knows is that Rosie is a friend, and he likes her. That, apparently, makes him a ‘blue-pilled beta soyboy’ according to Dave.

To Rob, these words just sound like meaningless internet slang. To a staff member who understands ‘incel’ subculture, it could be a warning sign.

We’ve worked closely with experts on our latest course, Incel Subculture, available now on iAM Academy.

The incel worldview exists mostly online. Its terminology, symbols and beliefs can be difficult to understand, especially for anyone who hasn’t encountered the forums and spaces where they spread. That can make signs of engagement easy to miss.

But we need to know about it, because this community can be harmful and potentially dangerous; not only for impressionable young people, but also for others they encounter.

This course gives school staff a clearer understanding of:

- What incel subculture is and how it can affect students
- The terminology, symbols such as 🫘and 💊, and behaviours that may indicate engagement
- The harm an affected student or their peers may be at risk of
- How to support young people to disengage from a harmful ideology

Concern about the incel subculture is growing, but safeguarding starts with understanding. Staff need to look beyond unfamiliar language, recognise when something may be wrong, and respond in a way that protects everyone involved.

What’s still using energy in your school on a Sunday? 🏫

When the classrooms are empty, and almost everything should be switched off, your energy consumption ought to be at its lowest. Our experts, Luke and Andy, describe this as your estate's “resting heart rate”.

Establishing that baseline gives you something to compare against periods of peak demand. More importantly, it helps unusual activity stand out. 🔍

A school that appears to be consuming too much energy during a quiet period might have equipment running unnecessarily, a system left on manual override or a hidden fault that’s quietly increasing costs.

Luke and Andy have seen heating left on manual for two years, a swimming pool pump running all summer and more.

In this episode of Demystifying Compliance, they explore:

🔹 How to compare baseline and peak consumption
🔹 Why energy bills should be treated as diagnostic information
🔹 What unexpected usage can reveal about your estate
🔹 How simple behaviour changes and affordable tech can reduce waste

Your energy bill doesn’t just tell you what you owe. It could be telling you that something is wrong.

SEMS has already generated plenty of questions.

Is it a new legal requirement?
Could my school or MAT be fined for remaining at Level 1?
Do I need to overhaul the way my estate is managed?

The short answer is ‘no’. With a caveat. But if you want a longer one, in our latest blog, our CEO and SEMS expert, Luke Pargeter, cuts through the jargon and explains:

- What SEMS is and isn’t
- How its four levels work
- Why clear, accessible evidence matters
- Where most schools should focus first.

If your team’s already doing the right checks, but the evidence sits across many folders, spreadsheets or in one person’s head, this is a useful place to start.

If you’re responsible for staff training, you’re probably not struggling to assign courses. You’re struggling to find the time to manage them.
How are you supposed to keep records organised, and ensure the right people complete the right training at the right time?

In our latest blog, we’ve answered some of the questions we hear most often from schools and trusts, including:

🔹 Why is staff training so difficult to manage?
🔹 Should schools use online or face-to-face training?
🔹 How can MATs maintain consistent training across multiple schools?
🔹 What training records should schools keep?
🔹 How can schools save time chasing course completion?

Whether you’re responsible for one school or an entire trust, you’ll find practical advice to help simplify training management, along with ideas you can put into practice straight away.

Why do we keep winning awards?

We could be humble and say “beats us”, but that’s not true. We know why. You know why.

It’s not complicated. It’s because we provide a system that helps schools manage their statutory compliance and much, MUCH, more, for a price that suits all budgets.

From £1 a day, schools can manage compliance, estates, assets, and energy usage all from one place.

Our system helps you without the chaos. Why? Because it’s built by people who understand your pain. Been there, done that, know what will help.

This video helps explain everything. Admittedly, with more low-quality dancing than we’d usually include in a promotional email.

🚨An alarm sounds, and you instantly recognise it as a lockdown alert.🚨

There may be no time for questions, and speaking to students might not be safe right now. You must act quickly.

Lockdowns can be frightening for all involved, especially students. At that moment, staff need to understand what’s happening and help students respond swiftly, calmly and appropriately.

Introducing Understanding Lockdowns, a brand-new course in the iAM Academy School Safety Collection.

The course builds on a school’s own lockdown policies and procedures, helping staff understand:

🔒 The difference between a full lockdown, partial lockdown and shelter-in-place
🔒 Why each type of protective measure might be triggered
🔒 How to respond swiftly and efficiently during a lockdown
🔒 How to prepare students for what they may need to do

Every school has its own lockdown procedures, and these must always be followed. This course helps staff understand the different types of lockdown in more detail, supporting them to follow those procedures and prioritise the safety of everyone in school.

When a lockdown is triggered, people need to be ready to act without adding to the fear or confusion. This course will help you be prepared.

If your school only runs smoothly because one person knows everything, it isn’t actually running smoothly. 🏫⚠️

A “hero caretaker” might know every asset, problem and workaround across the site. But when that knowledge lives in one person’s head, their absence can leave the school dangerously exposed.

That isn’t what SEMS Tier 3 looks like.

Tier 3 isn’t about flawless buildings, freshly painted corridors or never having an asset fail. It’s about system maturity: clear data, documented evidence, tracked actions and accountability that doesn’t depend on any one person.

In this episode of Demystifying Compliance, Luke and Andy discuss: 🎙️🎬

🔹 Why good estate management should feel “boring” in the best possible way
🔹 How forward-looking asset data helps schools anticipate failures
🔹 Why emergency repairs can cause routine statutory checks to fall behind
🔹 How early feasibility studies give schools more control over funding, equipment and installation timelines

What does SEMS actually mean for your school?

SEMS has already generated plenty of questions.

A child may not describe a safeguarding concern in the way an adult expects.

They might talk about what worries them, what feels safe or what they wish could be different. The challenge is helping them express those experiences and making sure their voice shapes what happens next.

Introducing Signs of Safety, a brand-new course in the iAM Academy KCSIE Collection.

The course explores how the Signs of Safety framework can help staff work with pupils, families and other safeguarding professionals to take a child-centred approach.

Learners will discover how to:

- Use the Three Houses tool to explore and prioritise a child’s voice and experiences
- Map and assess concerns about a child’s welfare
- Recognise what’s already helping to keep a child safe and what needs to change
- Use this understanding to communicate more openly with families and safeguarding professionals

KCSIE expects safeguarding practice to be child-centred. This course gives staff practical tools to help them understand a child’s world and keep their needs central to the decisions being made.
