Congratulations to Cumberland council, unfortunately I’m not surprised about this but they have decided to close the road right next to the main entrance of our shop so people can cross safely to Lidl! Just another example of looking after large national companies (with big teams of lawyers) while not worrying too much about what local independent businesses with limited resources will do in the meantime. When I called the council to try and have a conversation about a possible compromise I was told in no uncertain terms that the highways team will not take or make a phone call to discuss what is happening (sounds a bit like a dictatorship to me) THERE IS ANOTHER ENTRANCE AT THE TOP OF THE SLIP ROAD JUST BEFORE THE TURN ONTO EASTERN WAY WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO GET TO THE SHOP SO PLEASE DONT BE PUT OFF COMING TO SEE US AS ANYONE WHO DOES WILL BE REWARDED WITH THE BEST POSSIBLE DEALS WE CAN DO AND OUR USUAL SERVICE WHICH CANNOT BE BEATEN!
PLEASE HELP SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES BY LIKING AND SHARING THIS POST SO THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE HOW THE PEOPLE MAKING THE DECISIONS WITHIN THE COUNCIL LIKE TO OPERATE. THE WORST THING IS THEY WILL NOT EVEN HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT IT!!

It’s always a pleasure to support and work alongside fellow local businesses 🤝

Today was a great reminder of just how important it is to shop local and build strong connections within our community. By supporting each other, we help our local economy thrive, create jobs, and keep that personal touch you just don’t get elsewhere.

A big thank you to Julian from Warwick Road Bed Centre for popping in—and for the very welcome surprise of a lovely cake 🎂 (especially after joking about bringing one on the phone beforehand… we didn’t think you’d actually do it!). Even better, the cake was picked up from another hardworking local business, The Filling Station Carlisle - a 10/10 from us, give them a try if you haven’t already 😋

Moments like these show that business is about more than just transactions—it’s about relationships, trust, and a bit of good humour along the way.
