A Rear Dormer loft conversion had been internally clad in shuttering grade Ply, visibly screwed to the wall and given a light Oak stain, joints between boards had huge gaps and had been rounded over exposing the core of the ply which was full of holes! This despite an architect's spec for seamless Birch Ply. 🤦
Coming into the project at such a late stage was was always going to be a challenge; no idea of the existing buildup and all electrics second fixed with fascias on meant some serious undoing before I could even think about putting it right.
What followed was 3 intense weeks of work; high 30 degree heat lugging 18 and 25mm sheets of ply up winding staircases to a third floor, discovering new problems daily including an ensuite toilet that'd been left an inch from the wall and not fixed down (don't ask how I discovered this 😂).
In the end, over 400 cuts, custom made birch ply architraves, bespoke custom cabinetry, some really cool safety solutions (customer has an almost 2 year old) and a stunning recycled cork floor have come together to create a truly beautiful space.
It's light, bright, airy and fresh; the pale birch walls combined with sharp lines and a simple clean layout that has fantastic flow really give you a feeling of calm whilst simultaneously retaining a cosy warm feeling through the warmer contrasting tones of the floor... this space is going to be incredible to wake up in on a cold winter morning!
Massive thanks to East Kent Timber Ltd who supplied all of the sheet material; stunning as always!
provided not only brilliant aesthetics through his design but also accurate drawings that really helped me with late night quantity calculations. Tom has a really fabulous eye and was extremely helpful with all and any info I needed at short notice!
