This is my personal collection of green wood bowls & plates, used daily. The 2 bowls on the left & the plates are ‘s work, the right bowl is .
These have been made on foot powered lathes, using fresh timber. A very old craft, still being practiced & taught by skilled, passionate folk today.
There is something really special about using these wooden objects daily for food.
So much time goes into refining the skills and set up to produce forms like this. I’m honoured to own this lot.

A CHANCE TO LEARN!
(who I’m yet to own any of his work, but one day 🤩) is teaching a 2 day pole lathe bowl turning course at our farm this weekend! We are so excited to start hosting craft courses here.
ONE SPOT REMAINING - link in bio.

also teaches in his workshop in Bristol, do check him out, doing great things is our Geoff.

So grateful to be able to work on 2 more of these colourful guys. I made these 2 originally as teaching aids.

Very much glad I put together my low chair making bench before starting the framing of these 2, it’s a dream.

Final hole drilling, final carvings, then assembly.

I’ve picked up some boards of ash from today, they are always super helpful. The first image is me digging through a full seasoned ash boule - what a treat to be able to select my exact boards for the next 9 or so chair seats.

Now taking some measurements off these two chairs (2nd photo) so .skawinski I can start carving the new seats.
Exciting
I havnt made any plans as I’m making a new chair yet, I I seem to prefer to take lots of measurements & photos once I need to replicate them.

I’ve been fortunate to be asked to make one of this blue & one of the red dining chairs for a lovely client. To be part of a whole set eventually.

Verryyyy exited to be working in collaboration with .skawinski on these commissions. This morning we are getting ready to start splitting logs!🪵

In this photo is my story board for the part sizes, that board has all the dry sizes for all the components of those two chairs. I avoid numbers wherever possible - in my practical woodwork anyway (big maths nerd at heart) - the sizes are based on the template chairs, which were originally just made to look good to my eye. The tenon sizes are to my old set of augers that look about an appropriate diameter.

This is the 2nd version (dark green) & 6th version (dark red) of my double bow offering.
I think I’m now on v.9.

They look pretty similar, but in between these chairs I’ve remade all the bending forms, many parts of the process & form are being refined. They feel pretty different to sit in.

The earlier chair has been gifted to my mother, the more recent chair is on its way (probably with me) to as a chair swap with , hopefully this winter.

Hopefully published next few days.

Chairs are as beautiful (if not more so) as a shadow.

A 2 day bark tanning course with .tanner, at Geoff’s place in Grow Wilder in Bristol.
Learning to make leather by hand with natural materials.
I cannot recommend learning from Jane enough. REALLY knowledgeable, welcoming & fun.
Given me the confidence to get back into working with leather & start to tan my muntjac hides I’ve recently acquired.

Making the jobs as easy as possible by having the tools working well

This 2 person crosscut saw was a gift when I moved into my workshop, it’s been on the wall every since, rusty.

Decided I’d slowly start restoring it back to use, with the help of my beautiful new old leg vice. I’ve just cut the pitted surfaced back on the vice and greased him up.

I’ve been learning a bit of basketry.
Here’s my first 4
I did a course with , was totally inspired and have become quickly obsessed. I made the big one with the white stripe with Flo.
The little oval with 2 handles is my most recent effort, finished today.

I love how accessible this craft is, almost no tools and small, foragable materials. And lots of wonderful folk like Flo to learn from.

Look forward to be havesting some of our own willows @ gotgreensfarm next winter
