Sconch is a friendly Local Yarn Shop stocking a huge range of yarn, patterns, notions, and books. We also offer classes and craft groups. You can also shop online with us at www.sconch.com

Founded by Sam Conway at the beginning of 2011, Sconch started life creating bespoke home furnishings and stylish crocheted accessories. After struggling to find a supplier that combined the convenience of onli

ne shopping with the personal service of going to a local store, she decided to set up shop herself. Combining a strong social media presence with the convenience of an online shop ensures Sconch is able to provide a personal service to each of their customers. Whether it is colour matching to an existing project, photographing different yarns together to ensure you get the perfect combination of colours, or just being on hand to discuss your lastest yarn obsession, Sconch is here to help. Sconch stocks products from many of the leading brands of yarns, all available for same day despatch. We are on hand seven days a week to deliver an unbeatable level of personal service. Sconch may not be the biggest (yet!) but aims to be the best for service and price. You can keep up to date with the adventures at Sconch HQ (including the tales of the long suffering Mr Sconch and the little Sconchlet!) on the blog or by following our page, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter feed. Just click on the tab at the top of the page for the blog or the Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter buttons at the bottom of the page. Or why not pop in and see us? We are open Tuesday to Sunday every week!

I'm a bit further along than this now, as I've started to sew them together, but isn't this adorable?!

I've not quite decided if it will be a cushion cover or a wall hanging yet, but I'm a bit addicted to making teeny tiny little hexies right now!! πŸ’œ

All of these fabrics are from the shop, and you can buy them as far quarters or by the length (starting at quarter of a metre). I took a quarter of a metre of each, and I have loads left over, so already contemplating what to use the rest for...

Have you looked at our fabrics yet? (Did you know we did fabric?!) There's a banner on the home page of the website!

Hope you're all having a lovely Sunday. We've been for a pootle round a local country park, and now I'm sitting knitting whilst the BBQ does the work...

I've sent a newsletter with a cheeky discount code, so make sure you check your inboxes (and if you're not signed up to the newsletter, why not?!! Get yourself over to the website and sign up now people!). There's also a few more things in the sale section 🩷

I've got about 20 more rounds before I start the rib of my Make-a-Long, and I'm making headway with my English Paper Peicing (if you ignore the hexie I just had to unpick 😭) so it's a good crafting day all round.

What are you making on this lovely Sunday?

And if the idea of knitting or crocheting with lace weight fills you with dread, why not hold it double as a 4ply? Or hold it with a mohair for an extra floofy 4ply?!

Search 'Rowan Fine Lace' on the website or follow the tag!

So confession time.

As a Yarn Shop Owner, we HATE the hot weather. Nobody is buying yarn. Even me, who will knit throughout the whole year, didn't knit this weekend. Even I won't knit when it's 35 degrees.

Yet I've still got to pay the mortgage (both mine and the shop!), pay staff costs, pay tutors, pay yarn bills. And with next to nothing coming in, that's a conundrum.

But you know what, on a personal level, I LOVE the sun. I've spent a whole weekend splashing round in a paddling pool with my small people and my parents. I've had white wine spritzers, long evenings chatting, and all the giggling.

Even today when I'm back in mostly work mode (I mean not properly, it's half term, I'm a parent this week 🀣) I've listened to the giggling and splashing, and now we're having a BBQ and soaking up the evening sun.

So it's a constant contradiction in my brain. Yay, it's sunny, followed by aaaaaaaargh I've got to pay the mortgage next week. Shortly followed by let's have a water fight, and aaaaargh I need to pay the wages!

Anyone else work in a job where their work brain argues with their home brain the whole time?!! πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

PS please buy some yarn?!

All sorts of adorable patchwork things are starting to creep into the shop πŸ’œ

We took delivery of some gorgeous books at the end of last week, all perfect for using fat quarters! I've got my eye on Sew Much Love, I want to make that cover design!

It's been sooooooon long since I did patchwork (did you know I used to teach it *many* moons ago?!) and I really feel I might need to give up work to fit all the projects in 🀣🀣

I've spent a lovely weekend doing English Paper Piecing in the sun, and I can't wait to finish it! It'll just be a small sampler for the shop, but I can see a quilt in my future!! (Maybe with *slightly* larger hexies though...)

Yes, it's almost Sconch Party time! Saturday 13th June is World Knit in Public Day and we'll be having games, offers and goody bags 🩷

Things NOT to say to an overtired small business owner*

Yes, these are all based on things real people have said to me over the last year.

1. Your hair looks better/brighter/a nicer colour on Instagram (I get this a LOT)
2. Is it a dress down day?
3. Are you auditioning for children's TV dressed like that?
4. Make-up would hide how tired you look, you know (No. No it wouldn't. Not least because one, I'm ALREADY wearing make-up and two, because I have children who don't sleep.)
5. Oh (cue disappointed face). You don't quite look like how you do on Instagram, do you?
6. Do you not try so hard with your hair and stuff since you've moved here?
7. Gosh, you've let yourself go since I last saw you...

It's weird isn't it, because when we put ourselves on socials we present an image to the world, which isn't necessarily exactly true. It's a glossier version. I get that. I always try and be fairly real with my posts, I don't use filters unless the light is abysmal where I'm filming, but I never use a beauty filter - you get my wrinkles and bags as they are I'm afraid. But you might see me on a post when I'm being my 'best self' or when my hair is freshly dyed (honestly, you try keeping up on your hair being root free, bright colours and generally amazeballs when you've got 2 kids and 2 businesses). So it might be a shock when you come in and I look more tired than in my 3 minute reel.

This isn't a pity post btw, I largely think it's hilarious. Imagine having the actual balls to tell someone you think they've let themselves go when you don't even know them 🀣🀣

*or in fact anyone!!

Last Forget-Me-Not post for a while, I promise! But I just HAD to show you how wonderful all of your amazeballs Forget-Me-Nots look up against the church wall! πŸ’™

The banner is a whopping 1.8m wide, with just over 800 flowers sewn on! 🩡

I'm so grateful to every one of you who made and sent in a flower, we really couldn't have done it without you. And it's not just these, we have loads in the shop still, plus all the brooches we've made (Β£2 each, cash only, make sure you come and get one this week!) πŸ’™

You're all amazeballs!! 🩡

(And a massive thank you to St Andrews Church for letting us put the banner up here!)
