Following the success of taking part in the 2021 Great Manchester run, our team is back for the 2025 event!

Starting and finishing in the heart of Manchester city, some of the Barry Bennett team will be running The Great Manchester 10km run on Sunday 18th May 2025, to help raise funds for charity partner Venture Arts

Venture Arts is an award winning visual arts organisation working with learning disabled artists, removing barriers to arts and championing neurodiversity, they provide pathways for each individual to develop their creativity identity.

As part of our efforts and commitment to ongoing Learning and Development, we have some of our employees embarking on a learning journey via Apprenticeship schemes over the coming few months.

The courses for completion include:

• Level 7 Senior People Professional Programme
• Level 4 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner
• Level 3 Team Leader

All of these courses make for some really interesting learning, and we can’t wait to see what additional skills our employees can bring to their roles on the back of these courses.

A massive thank you to everyone who visited our sister company, Bennett Workplace Solutions at stand A30 last week at the OT Show. We had over 150 enquiries from OTs working across all age groups from children to seniors wanting to know more about how our chairs can help people to regain their independence. The feedback received was amazing, especially with regard to our new ‘power assist wheels’.

We were thrilled to booked assessments and ‘lunch & learn’ presentations whilst on the stand and have many more to follow up. Turing Trust IT Donation

We are delighted to have made a donation of old / unused IT equipment to The Turing Trust including keyboards, mice, monitor cables and desk top machines.

Our donation will enable 432 students to learn vital IT skills. Beyond this, the environmental impact from our donation will offset 7 tonnes of CO2 emissions which is the equivalent of planting 17 trees. The embodied energy savings created are also enough to power 2 UK homes for a year as well.

Founded in memory of Alan Turing, this amazing charity supports businesses with disposing of unwanted IT equipment in an ethical and sustainable way at zero cost, and then helps to support the education of children in Malawi and the UK by recycling and refurbishing IT devices.

Alan Turing (1912-1954) was a brilliant mathematician, World War II code-breaker, founder of computer science, philosopher and theoretical biologist. His pre-war work laid down the theoretical plan for a programmable computer, and after the war he was closely involved in the design and programming of the world’s earliest computing machines. In 2009, Alan’s family set up The Turing Trust to honour his remarkable legacy.

Our team are currently out and about visiting retirement villages throughout the UK to introduce the benefits of our fabulous VELA chairs which assist with mobility issues around the home, helping users to maintain their independence.

Our Specialist Assessor James Foster had a great time at the ExtraCare Charitable Trust Retirement Village, St Oswald's, Gloucestershire, where residents had the opportunity to book free-of-charge assessments to try the chairs for themselves in the comfort of their own homes. The VELA Tango 700E with power wheels was particularly well received (the light grey chair in the image), which is no surprise at all as it is perfect for assisting with:

👉Reaching high cupboards
👉Transferring to the bed or sofa
👉Standing up and sitting down
👉Desk/dining room table activities
👉Manoeuvring around the room/home

Disability Confident Leadership Status

We are pleased to announce that we have recently attained level 3: Disability Confident Leader status, which is accredited to us for 3 years. Level 3 is the final stage of the accreditation scheme and requires the completion and demonstration of two elements:

1. Challenge: Evidencing of external validation from our level 2 self-assessment
2. Leadership: Demonstrating what we have done and will do, as a disability confident leader
