Hi and Welcome to my page , I’m jenny the owner of The Furniture Paint Queen , my journey stared many moons ago when I just loved decorating and changing everything in my house and could never find that perfect piece of furniture to fit in with what I want , it was always missing something so I started creating what I wanted to fit in my home this kind of became a hobby and passion of mine to do

this and found it more of a therapy as well after my mum passed away it was just my safe place to get away and not to have to think of everyday life and then I decided to take the plunge of doing it full time, originally it started in my shed and then moved to the house which took over so quickly and now I have my very own shop which I’m so proud of as I do wonder if I would be doing this if my mum was here and I probably would as she would often come round and find I had decorated and put a new fire place in or using the grinder to make something so that’s me .

Mineral paints come with a built-in top coat making waxing or top-coating your pieces optional. They typically have a matte finish with a very slight silky sheen. The coverage of these paints is absolutely brilliant and makes furniture painting simple and fun. The prep required for your furniture painting projects is minimal and the product leaves an extremely durable finish. It is also brilliant for outdoor furniture although top-coating for exterior pieces is recommended for extra durability.

So your thinking of having a go at a project yourself but unsure where to start here’s how.

Ensure all surfaces are in good condition, free from grease, clean and dry.

Lightly sand the surface to help the paint stick better. If the piece has been painted before remove old, flaky paint as much as possible by scraping and sanding, aiming to crease a smooth finish by sanding and ‘feathering’ the edges of any non-removable paint. Carefully sand back any varnish or top layers so they aren’t shiny.

New wood can have knots which produce a sticky resin. If the knots are resinous, scrape off any excess and clean with methylated or white spirit. Allow the area to dry then prime I love zinsser binds it’s a great stain block and odour blocker for old furniture.

Finish your piece off with two coats of your chosen colour
