Working alone is hard ๐Ÿฅน

Not just logistically hard, emotionally hard.

Motivation is harder to find. Ideas feel stuck. And some days, you'd give anything for a real conversation with an actual human.

We created The Residence because we've been there.

That isolated, drained feeling when you realise your workspace is working against you, not for you.

Here's the thing about energy: it's contagious. When you're surrounded by people who understand the entrepreneurial journey, who are cheering you on (while also getting their own stuff done), everything shifts.

Come experience it yourself, your first day is completely FREE ๐Ÿ’ฅ

โœจ Book a complimentary desk, bring your laptop, meet the community, and see if this is the missing piece you've been looking for.

No commitment. Just good people, great space, and proper coffee.

"We've done more business here, than we ever did out of our old office"

Take a listen to what Justin Godfrey, Director of Residential Sales at Savills, has to say about life since joining The Residence, and his biggest win, NETWORKING ๐Ÿ’™

Traditional networking events are brilliant for making initial connections, in fact we host several here at The Residence and love the energy they bring.

But what if you could extend that networking beyond the 2-hour monthly session?

That's where coworking comes in. It's networking that happens naturally, woven into your working week.

The magic of regular presence:

Monthly networking = 2 hours of focused connections
Coworking = 18+ hours/month of organic relationship building

Both have their place, but here's an interesting stat: 60% of freelancers and SMEs say their enquiries come through their coworking network, not online ads.

Our **Flex 2** plan gives you 18 opportunities each month to build on those initial networking introductions. The casual coffee chats, shared lunch breaks, and everyday interactions that deepen those connections naturally.

When you're part of The Residence community, you get:

โœ“ Access to 130+ local professionals working here regularly
โœ“ Member directory with bios and business details
โœ“ Exclusive community channels for collaboration
โœ“ Local business noticeboard
โœ“ Free monthly Lunch n Learn with key speakers
โœ“ The chance to turn brief introductions into lasting relationships

Complement your networking with coworking, because some of the best business relationships grow from regular, relaxed interactions.

Running a business from home sounds idealโ€ฆ until youโ€™re in it....

One minute youโ€™re opening your laptopโ€ฆ

Next minute youโ€™re folding clothes, making another coffee, tidying clutter away.

The day just sort ofโ€ฆ disappears and you've not achieved much!

You deserve to have somewhere to go where your only job is to work (and eating free cakes and mingling occasionally).

A proper desk.
A bit of separation.
A clear start and finish to your day.

If you are finally ready to ditch the shoddy spare room setup and have your own space to work... send us a message.

Our Founder, Karen didn't start The Residence because she wanted to rent out desks.

She started it because she knew what it felt like to work alone!

The freedom of running your own business is incredible. But the isolation? It creeps in quietlyโ€ฆ then becomes deafening.

No one to sound decisions out with. Motivation dipping, not because you don't care, but because you're carrying everything on your own.

That was her. Working from home, loving what she did, but missing people.

That's why The Residence exists.

Because people don't do their best work in isolation. They do it when they're surrounded by others who are switched on, who get it, who'll test your ideas over coffee and cake โ˜•๐Ÿฐ

Connection without distraction. Community without pressure.

That's what coworking really is. And it's why our members don't just get more done, they feel better doing it.

She feels better doing it โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Laura left us last year.....๐Ÿฅน

the sunny climate of Dubai, was calling her and her family, and we were equally sad, and thrilled for her!

but we knew......

we had a big hole to fill....

So, we took our time searching for someone truly special to join The Residence, and we are absolutely thrilled to introduce you to Holly, our brand new Community & Events Manager! ๐ŸŽ‰

Holly is already the heartbeat of our space, and honestly, watching her take her place, front and centre, is total confirmation, that we made the right choice!

Her days are wonderfully varied.

One moment she's planning a networking event, the next she's welcoming a new member, giving a tour to someone about to find their new work home, or calmly solving a last-minute tech crisis with a smile on her face.

Her role covers everything from community building and event management to day-to-day operations and member experience, but at the heart of it all is one simple mission: making sure every single person who walks through our doors feels genuinely welcome, supported, and part of something special.

Because at The Residence, we don't just offer desks , we build community with daily intention and framework.

And now we have Holly helping us do exactly that.

Please join me in giving her the warmest Residence welcome! ๐Ÿ’›

To prove that premium doesn't mean impersonal. We're building the model for what coworking should be: sustainable, community-driven spaces where people do their best work because they genuinely want to be there.

Karen, our Founder, didnโ€™t set up The Residence Coworking because she wanted desks and WiFi.

She set it up because she knew what it feels like to work alone.

When you run your own business or your a freelancer, the freedom is incredible, she was thrilled to be out of the city, doing her own thing.

Butโ€ฆ

The isolation crept in. Quietly at first. Then it became deafening.

Days pass without real conversation. Decisions sit heavy because thereโ€™s no one to sound them out with. Motivation dips, not because you donโ€™t care, but because youโ€™re carrying everything on your own. And letโ€™s face it she loves people and a good natter ๐Ÿคฃ

That was her experience of working alone, at home.

And itโ€™s why The Residence Coworking exists.

Productivity conversations often focus on focus, discipline and time management. What they miss is this: People donโ€™t do their best work in isolation. she learnt the hard way.

We've come to understand thatโ€™s a big part of why coworking is so successful; itโ€™s about the who, not just the where.

Our members are freelancers and business owners who love what they do. But working alone day after day takes its toll. Isolation drains energy far quicker than a busy cafรฉ ever could.

At The Residence, people are surrounded by others who are switched on.

Different industries. Different perspectives. People who get it.

And that matters.

Research shows 60 percent of coworkers say their coworking network is their top source of work opportunities. we donโ€™t need convincing, we see it happen every week.

Conversations turn into collaborations.

Ideas get tested over coffee and cake โ˜•๏ธ ๐Ÿฐ

Confidence grows when you realise youโ€™re not the only one figuring things out as you go.

People are happier too. And happier people do better work. Thatโ€™s not fluff. Itโ€™s human. And human connection is what we need to survive.

Coworking fills a gap that home offices and traditional workplaces often canโ€™t.

Connection without distraction.

Community without pressure.

Thatโ€™s why people donโ€™t just get more done here and importantly, they feel better doing it.

We feel better doing it together โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

For years I did what a lot of people around here do, I got up early, squeezed onto a train into London, grabbed an overly expensive coffee and spent my days on the trading floors, which I loved, btw!

The work was demanding, the commute was draining and expensive, but I totally loved the buzz of the office and the people around me.

Eventually the commute won.

I decided I wanted my time and my life back.

I left the City, set up my own business as a Virtual Assistant and started working from home.

At first it felt brilliant. No trains. No timetable. My rules.

But then I realised, I missed people. I missed the banter, the birthday celebrations and the bloody funny stories we shared over our desks about nights out, weekend antics and the monotonous meeting memos.

I realised I didn't need a desk. I needed mates.

Right on cue, a renovated barn near my home came up for rent.

It was bright, beautiful but far too big for one chatty Karen with a laptop.

But I could see it.

๐Ÿ’ก People at desks.
๐Ÿ’ก Cups of tea and cake.
๐Ÿ’ก Conversations in the kitchen.
๐Ÿ’ก That feeling of walking into a place where you belong.

Before I could even type Ikea into Google, I had the keys and had opened my first coworking space in Newport just outside Saffron Walden, Hertfordshire.

What started as a solution to my own loneliness has grown into The Residence, version 2.

Over the past eight years we have upgraded everything: the barn, the furniture, the layout, the coffee, the tech.

The space is now custom built and professionally designed, with countryside views and all the practical things you need to get work done.

But the heart of it has not changed.

I still believe a workspace should give you three things

โค๏ธ A place to get serious work done.
๐Ÿ’™ A community of people who get what your life is like.
๐Ÿ’› A sense that you are not building your business on your own.

Every day I watch people walk in tired, distracted or a bit unsure of themselves and leave with energy, ideas and new confidence.

Us Karens get a bad rap but I am not out to fix the name.

I am here to build an awesome coworking community, where you can do great work and feel like you belong.

Itโ€™s tough out there!

Everyone is chasing more leads, more sales, more connections.

Thatโ€™s why social media marketing has become so big, right?

But business growth needs feeding.

And too many people are trying to survive on noise alone.

Weโ€™re all fighting to be heard online.

Algorithms change.

Attention spans shrink.

And suddenly youโ€™re working harder just to stand still.

This is the bit people often miss about The Residence Coworking and coworking in general.

You only really understand it once you experience it.

Coworking can be a powerful source of work.

๐Ÿ’ก Not a short term fix.
๐Ÿ’ก Not a quick win.
๐Ÿ’ก The long game.

Itโ€™s about investing in relationships. Showing up. Sharing ideas. Supporting each other when thereโ€™s nothing immediate to gain. And, the data supports it too.

Research shows 60 percent of coworkers say their coworking network is their top source of work opportunities.

Personally I donโ€™t need convincing. I see it happen every week.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Introductions that turn into projects.
๐Ÿ’ฅ Conversations that turn into collaborations.
๐Ÿ’ฅ Trust built over time, not traded for clicks.

Coworking shouldnโ€™t be your only food source. No single channel should be.

But when you stop relying solely on shouting into the void and start building real relationships, business growth feels a lot more sustainable.

And a lot more human ๐Ÿฉท ๐Ÿ’™
