Interesting piece I found from a few years ago but caught my eye having toured Collidoscope in a regional capacity. I have to say I think 'regional' work brings to mind a sense that work in this category offers diversity, possible local resonance, profiling a wider range of new writing by unknown writers whilst offering - financially and geographically, greater accessibility . A widening of possibilities as opposed to a lowering of quality. Lyn makes a shrewd point about the forging of relationships between young artists and established companies. Working alongside BCT, The REP and Creative Black Country has helped to shape my practice and without them, without making relationships regionally as a young artist, it would be like walking around a cave holding a candle watching everyone else with a torch and being too afraid to ask for some direction.

Lyn Gardner: Isn't there a better way to describe theatre activity that takes place beyond London?
