A glimpse into the history of our building..
Long before it became our store, this space was the Working Men’s Hall in Shrewsbury. In 1900s Shrewsbury, hundreds of local children gathered here for a special charity Christmas dinner of roast beef, plum pudding, sweets, and oranges - luxuries many of them rarely experienced.
Newspaper reports described “poor pinched faces” transformed into “beaming faces” as the hall filled with excitement, laughter, and gratitude. The meal was followed by music, entertainment, and gifts for every child to take home.
This photograph captures a remarkable moment of kindness and community in the very building we are now located. We’re proud to be part of its story and to share a little piece of Shrewsbury’s history with you.
Thank you to Richard Tisdale for sharing this with us!
