Ghost town and fantasmorgorical bargains.

I've often wanted to take photos around town... just of the buildings...
....but there's always a bit of bustle.

Cars.
People.
Bikes.

Not this afternoon... on the hottest day in the history of England..
...ok ..ok..maybe that's a slight exaggeration

But it's certainly the hottest June day on record.

Many shops closed early due to the intense heat.

Nass had our warehouse open for a couple of hours...but the heat was just too much and he closed.

The streets were deserted.
No visitors.
No locals.

I was heading to this shop for a gift....and thankfully they were still open.

So I bought the gift.

Then ...just couldn't seem to help myself..
..bought 3 gifts for me....or was it 4?

Anyway, aside from all that..

If you're local or visiting Arundel
.....you will find some beautiful summer clothes...
...lot of Goose Island ...linen
....all £10

Their last day is Monday.

Pubs were open...for essential hydration...

Have a gentle evening ###

Saturday in Arundel...

Busy yesterday.

Farmer's market
(every 3rd Saturday of the month)
So extra hectic in the town centre.

I took a couple of hours off work to saunter around town,  take a few snaps..

And pretend I was on holiday.....

Saturday in Arundel...

19/06/2026

Nass was11 years old when he was sent from a small desert village near Yazd, Iran, to an English boarding school near Arundel.

His father thought it would tame his wild son.

From the moment he was abandoned at Heathrow arrivals by his paid guardian, Nass's story became one worthy of an experienced biographer, or film script.

Revolution and war hit Iran in 1979 and he was stranded.

While other Iranian boys left to live with relatives in London, Nass remained in  school.

He had nowhere to go.
No way to return home.

It was 22 years before he saw family again.

No money arrived.

He was given jobs.
Rising early to care for the school's  menagerie of animals.

The holidays were lonely....spent by himself in the large rambling building.

The summer break interminable.

At Christmas someone came to cook him  dinner and hand him a Mars selection box from the tuck shop.

When Nass and I met, I noticed a pile of  letters from Iran in his flat.

All unopened.

" I can't read Farsi any more"

He wanted to return home to see his family, but the country had changed.

He was scared.

We were in London at a roadside café when a bus stopped in front of us...
..an ad for TURKEY emblazoned on the side.

The answer....

Broke... my mum lent us money.

Nass's mother travelled by bus from Tehran.

An emotional reunion at an hotel in Istanbul.

Nass returned to Iran the following year.

There were new siblings to meet.
There had been marriages.
Deaths.

The language of his childhood deep in his subconscious resurfaced...

" He woke up one morning speaking Farsi with a Yazdi accent."  said his amazed sister.

We have returned many times since and with each visit discover more of the country Nass still calls home.

What's so special?

The ancient history and traditions of the Persian Empire?

The landscape, art and architecture?

Yes
But above all...

It's the people.

And in spite of his bizarre childhood, Nass always says...

" Brennie, I don't regret anything in my life,
It's made me the person I am...."

Extraordinary Husband...

Extraordinary Homeland....

New day.
New week.

What's on todays agenda?

Firstly here's

One minute and 38 seconds of Arundel and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

With some relaxing music...

(If all else fails I might go for a job with
The Arundel Tourist Board )

Meanwhile....it's a painting and decoupage day for me on an old chest of drawers...

New audible book.
Elsa Spaniel snoozing alongside.

Tough job...but someone has to do it..

Nass will be down at our antiques warehouse.

It really is rather a special town.

Located in West Sussex in the South of England
..... an hour from London on the train.

Is there much here?

There's a castle, cathedral, meandering river, wildfowl trust, antique centres,

We have some fabulous independent shops...small businesses that put heart and soul into what they do.

Here's some of our favourites.

What else?
Swanbourne Lake and Arundel Park....

restaurants and pubs.........a history that dates to Roman times and beyond....

Then there's

artists, musicians, actors.....that either live here or dip in for festivals...

What else?

Drip Action Theatre...
Jazz in an ancient Jailhouse

Outside heated swimming pool

Clubs and Societies
Bowls
Tennis courts
Fishing
Putting greens with fantastic café

..the most lovely little theatre
...a Town Hall that hosts weddings, events  and a cinema once a month.
