Dealing with bleach spots and sisal damage is our ‘bread & butter’ and I could post very often with these.

However, here is something a little different. A 100% Wool, s**g pile rug to dye three different colours, green, yellow and red in equal sections.
-
The client said she contacted quite a few companies who advised her it couldn’t be done. However, I sometimes like a challenge and knew with the right preparation and expectations it was worth a go.
-
The wool fibres are about 10cm long and very thick, so I knew I needed a lot of dye solution. I contemplated many methods, like dipping 2/3 of the rug in yellow, the 1/3 in blue etc... but decided to do one section and one colour per day.
-
I started in the middle with the Yellow and having covered the non yellow areas with paper, masking tape and towels, I started to apply, using a hand wand sprayer, the 5 litres of dye I’d made up. It quickly became apparent the dye was only penetrating the top third of the fibre, so I went through each tuft row by row and quickly ran out of dye. I made some more solution and ended up using 8 litres, but it was looking pretty good, but not all the dye was down to the base of the pile.
-
For the green, I decided to dip the rug in the dye solution to get better pe*******on. I made up 12 litres of Green and after dipping, I saturated the area with a sprayer to further even the colour and fill-in any gaps.

I did a similar thing with the red but used 20 litres of dye!!
Once fully dry a small white line remained between the red and yellow colours, this was easily dealt with detailing with the smaller colour repair equipment.
Overall, relieved to have a very happy and satisfied customer and colourful rug.
