Home Comfort stores are different, we rehome quality, preowned furniture and household items, allowing people to enhance their homes affordably while at the same time saving our beautiful planet. The items we sell come from donations from the very generous North East community, meaning that annually we divert hundreds of tonnes from landfill, 175.5 tonnes in 2018! We’re continually surprised at th
e delight of customers visiting our stores – some, who know we’re a “charity shop” have a preconceived idea that items will be past their best; and those who initially think we’re a “normal store” are astonished at the prices prior to discovering items are nearly new – we love seeing these reactions. In store you’ll meet our friendly and helpful staff, who are often supported by volunteers gaining retail-based work experience. We have 3 Home Comfort stores across Aberdeen, Union Square which is the biggest and mainly stocks furniture and household items to make a house a home, our Great Western Road store purveys mainly white goods and smaller electricals, and our Culter store stocks clothing and household décor items. All our items go through careful quality control testing and have safety labels intact where relevant; our stores are all certified by Revolve which is the Zero Waste Scotland quality accreditation for trading standards in reuse goods, we don’t sell anything that doesn’t meet the standards meaning that many of our items literally are as good as new! Come and see us whether you’re looking to upcycle, donate items, save the planet, furnish a property or if you simply fancy a bargain. Our stores can only operate thanks to the kindness of those who give us donations. Our charity is Instant Neighbour which supports some of the most disadvantaged people in Aberdeen City and Shire – providing real help today and hope for tomorrow – enabling people to get back on their feet and turn their lives around. Many are unaware that poverty is on the increase in the North East, and that there are people struggling to put food on their tables or worse maintain a roof over their heads. There’s a stigma around poverty and a perception that people are solely to blame for the situations they’re in, that’s very often not the case. Profits from Home Comforts go into funding Instant Neighbour’s activities to alleviate poverty.
