a perfect, tranquil spot. A lovely open plan bedroom/lounge apartment with cabine, which includes double sofa bed and single bunk
beds,TV / DVD, CD / Cassette Player, opens out on to a charming balcony with stupendous canal views. Facing south/south east, a lovely spot for breakfast in the morning sun,
which stays until the middle of the afternoon. The sun blind over the balcony creates a cool shade from the hot midday sun, as do the sandy coloured floor tiles. The open plan kitchen is well equipped, including microwave oven, electric oven, fridge, freezer, coffee maker, etc., but with such a wide choice of restaurants within walking distance, you may well prefer to eat out! With beaches only 200metres walk away, and center ville just 150metres, this truly is the ideal place for a holiday. Port Grimaud is a beautiful place where we have spent many happy holidays, with our children and now with our grandchildren. It is a place where you can read undisturbed for hours, eat out at a different restaurant every night, explore the local area, the many beaches, the hill top villages, and, of course, watch beautiful sunsets over the castle village of Grimaud. Tropez, it’s just a short drive away, or, if you prefer, take one of the daily boat trips across the bay. The history of the place begins in 1962, when architect and sailor, Francois Spoerry’s dream began to come true. Designed in the style of a lakeside fishing village, it reflects the beauty and colours of Venice, with houses painted in various shades of yellow ochre, blues and pinks. The network of canals, flowing under small hump backed bridges, lead down to the sea, with beaches on either side of the port access channel. On one side, a beautiful curve of sand marks the quiet beach used mainly by residents (or those on holiday) of Port Grimaud, and on the other side, a glorious stretch of wide golden sand, for about 1 to 2 kilometres. Perfect for swimming, sunbathing and
a variety of water sports. There is a water bus service, similar to the Venetian vaporetti and other motoscafi, which runs all day, and gives you the opportunity to see Port Grimaud by day. There are cafes and restaurants along the waterfronts, as well as charming shops and boutiques. For your convenience there is a small supermarket in the main square, or just 1.5 kilometres to the nearest Geant supermarket at La Foux. On Sundays and Thursdays there is a market in the square, one of the most picturesque in the region, where you can buy local produce as well as a wide variety of other goods. St.Tropez, Ramatuelle, Gassin, St. Maxime and Frejus all have their own colourful markets on other days of the week. Market days are a colourful treat in Port Grimaud and the surrounding towns and well worth attending. Port Grimaud has markets in the Place du Marche on Thursdays and Sundays and a small market in the Place François Spoerry on Mondays and Fridays. There are usually stalls with a huge range of locally produced foodstuffs, pottery, traditional soaps and scents, herbs, antiques, bric-a-brac and clothes. Nearby Ramatuelle and Gassin are two very famous and pretty hill villages with remarkable views. The area around the Cavalaire is also very pretty and has some very good beaches. In the hills, above the delightful seaside resort of Gigaro, La Croix Valmer, is a beautiful and elegant hotel, the Souleias, worth a visit just for a drink and to admire the view. St Tropez is a pretty and popular town and very busy during July and August. There are restaurants on the harbour that provide a good place from which to view the yachts and the people. The St Tropez Saturday market is a must. Ste Maxime is famous for its old fashioned charm, shops cafes and restaurants and is popular with the British. The town of Coglin is worth a visit. Unlike most of the coastal towns, it functions all year round and prices are reasonable compared with elsewhere in the area. Also from Port Grimaud, Monte Carlo is an easy popular one day excursion.
