Gary started his training at a very young age helping his step-father; a very experienced carpenter/joiner. When he left school in 1991 he went straight to college and began an apprenticeship. By 1993 he had passed NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery, he then went on to complete Level 3 in 1995. Fully trained he continued to work with his step-father until 2009 when an opportunity to work on a hous

e renovation in France tempted him away from the UK for a year. On his return he became self-employed and ran a small joinery company with his wife for seven years before deciding in 2017 to make a permanent move to France for a different kind of life and a bit more renovating. Over the years he has worked on an extremely varied range of projects including a bespoke kitchen that has been featured on Grand Designs, wood panelling at Petworth House and he was part of the team that made Jody Scheckter’s outdoor barbecue kitchen in all its curved glory at Laverstoke Park Farm. Recently he designed and made some large timber architectural structures and a mud kitchen in the woods at Wakehurst Place; “Kew Gardens place in Sussex”. Of course these are just a few highlights from an interesting career spanning the last twenty five years; the bread and butter has been making anything and everything out of wood for people like you. With many years of experience in all aspects of carpentry and joinery Gary is a great choice for all your woodworking requirements. He’s highly skilled, very reliable and takes great pride in his work which is always finished to exceed the expectations of every client.

Working in 40°C isn't business as usual

With temperatures forecast to reach 38–40°C across many parts of France as of now and into next week, thousands of professional trades will be adapting how they work to protect both themselves and the quality of your project.

Roofers, scaffolders, electricians working in roof spaces, plasterers, landscapers, and many others will face temperatures well above those shown in the weather forecast.

If your contractor starts earlier than usual, takes more frequent breaks or finishes earlier in the afternoon, it isn't a lack of commitment. It's professional judgement.

Extreme heat affects:
☀️ People
☀️ Materials
☀️ Installation quality
☀️ Site safety

Sometimes the most professional decision is not to push through difficult conditions but to adapt the workday instead.

A quality job is worth waiting an extra hour for.

Sometimes we have to say no when a client asks us for new doors.

In this case, there were five curved doors to replace, but after assessing them, we found that they were actually in fairly good condition.
With some careful repairs, an improved panel detail at the bottom, a bit of tidying up generally and a fresh coat of paint, they'll last for many more years.

Not every project needs a full replacement. By restoring instead, we helped our client avoid unnecessary expense while keeping the original character intact.

Small can be beautiful.

Take a look at this kitchen we created for Rae and Dave. Space was at a premium, and they couldn’t afford to lose any storage. When designing their new kitchen, we worked closely with them to ensure we added even more storage than they had before.

The shallow cupboards beneath the breakfast bar side of the island added a surprising amount of extra space. Now they have a beautifully spacious kitchen, complete with an island that once felt like an unrealistic dream.

Their kitchen-dining room is now the entertaining hub of their cosy little home.
