The house is situated in a beautiful French town known as the Petit Nice des Alpes, moments from a boulangerie, shops, restaurants and bars. There are spectacular views of the mountains, valley and lake from the town, which is renowned for having 300 sunny days each year. while there is plenty of free parking. There is a busy market twice a week. Summer activities include swimming in the Serre-Pon
con lake, white water rafting, mountain walking, climbing, cycling (road or mountain) and relaxing! We have owned our house in Embrun (which dates from the 14th century), since 2005, during which time it has been totally renovated. It is a “maison de village”, ie an old terraced house in the centre of the town. It has 2 double beds and a bunk, so sleeps 6 very comfortably, but up to 8 if you are happy using an airbed. We have a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a sitting room and a roof terrace which is fantastic in the summer! Embrun is in the Durance Valley, surrounded by mountains known as the Embrunnais. You get fantastic views of the town from the ski resort of Les Orres. Getting there Transport links are good, with trains to Paris linking with Eurostar. It is an easy 2 hour drive to Marseille airport which is served by BA, Easyjet and Ryanair from the UK. The drive from Calais takes approximately 9 hours plus stops. There are about 20 ski resorts within an hour's drive of Embrun. The 3 nearest resorts are Les Orres, Crevoux and Reallon (20-30 minutes’ drive). Les Orres has about 100km of runs while the others are a bit smaller. Lift passes at Les Orres are 32€ /day, while the others cost about 20€ /day. NB There are lots of other better known resorts in the area, Serre Chevalier (40 minutes), Vars & Risoul (35 minutes) and Montgenevre with access into Italy via the Milky Way, to name but a few.
