Windows are in need of tender, loving care. Luckily I attended a window repair workshop and feel much more confident before this task. 💪

I also learned that most old windows can be fixed, even they at first glance look beyond repair. And I mean, some of the examples really looked wayyyyyy beyond repair and still, those too could be turned into beautiful long-lasting windows.

PS. I love how the light is reflected on the surface of mouth-blown glass.

This is the heart of our kitchen ♥️

A wood-burning baking oven and stove top plus electric versions of them both makes it possible to cook even on open fire. 🔥

Winter is closing in and we have put double windows back in place. 🪟

In between we placed lichen - because it looks pretty and because if there happens to be any moisture left between the frames, lichen will collect it. ♥️

Door curtains are almost a must here during winter.❄️ They give an extra layer of protection against draft as the pink dining room is kept cold in winter months and only heated up for festivities. Doors leading to the room are so forth kept closed and with curtains drawn infront.

I love the feel of warmth textiles add to any room. I could fill up all rooms with them! 😍

Do you remember, when last year we talked about growing hops?

In autumn 2020, we planted some wild hops we were allowed to dig from to our new little hop yard and hoped for the best.

It is said to take ~3 years for plant to establish and before a real hop harvest could be collected. Looking at the plants now, we can say that the transplantation was successful. 😁 We'll be getting a decent hop harvest already the first year in!

People, who move to old houses, get often asked whether there have been any (unpleasant) surprises with the house. Or of they have encountered unpredictable problems that they didn't thought of before moving.

Well, we haven't really encountered any, up until the day we had to take a picture of my husband for his ID card at work.

There were clear instructions; looking straight at the camera, shoulders should be visible, etc. And lastly, it should be taken in front of a WHITE WALL.

But, we have no white walls in our home. 🤷

Whoever wrote the instructions, probably never had imagined that there could be a Finnish home with zero white walls.

Luckily, we could fix a white background with a help of a white sheet and the unexpected problem was solved. 😁

Happy weekend everyone!

Got to be happy for the vast amount of rowan berries in our yard! Not only are they good source of food for the birds, but because of them, the apple fruit moth leaves our apples alone and feasts on rowans instead.

Last year we had almost no rowan berries and this meant that we could not get any apple harvest either. All were eaten by the moth.

There can never be enough places to sit in a garden - one for the morning cup of tea, one for the lunch with the family, one for love talks with your husband...

And then there is this - a bit hidden in the fields, under an apple tree. A place for thinking and rooting. ♥️

We have very little things in our grand dining room. Basically there is just a table for 8 people, a drawer and these old Thonet chairs I found in a nearby drift store. But in this world of abundance, sometimes less feels like more.

Love, love, love the rain!

Although our root cellar might be of different opinion. When we moved here the roof was growing trees and their roots had already caused a bit of damage to the roof, so now when it rains the cellar gets extra moist. 😅

Now all the trees are gone, we've inspected the damage and can probably get it completely fixed next year. 🙌
