Car parking ventilation:
according to NFPA standard:
· Naturally ventilated car parking:
Each parking level shall have wall openings open to the atmosphere, for an area of not less than 0.4 M² for each linear meter of its exterior perimeter. Such openings shall be distributed over 40 percent of the building perimeter or uniformly over two opposing sides.
· Mechanically ventilated car parking:
All enclosed parking structures shall be ventilated by a mechanical system capable of providing a
minimum of 300 L/min per m2 of floor area (1 ft3/min per ft2 of floor area) during hours of normal operation.
according to Egyptian code:
· Naturally ventilated car parking:
Same as NFPA, except that the opening area is 0.5 M² for each linear meter of exterior perimeter. In addition to, the maximum air path between inlet and outlet openings is 40 M.
If there are any obstructions like walls in the air stream path, these obstructions should be equipped with openings of not less than 20% of their areas.
Minimum distance between external parking walls and neighbor should be not less than 8 M
length or 1/3 neighbor's building height, whichever is greater.
· Mechanically & naturally ventilated car parking:
If any of the above conditions are not fulfilled or the distance between the inlet and outlet openings exceeded 50 M, mechanical ventilation should be added with a rate of 7.5 L/S.M².
Smoke removal fan should have a flow rate of 8 ACH.
CO detectors should be placed every 200 M².
· Mechanically ventilated car parking:
Mechanical ventilation should have a rate of 7.5 L/S.M² or 6 ACH whichever is greater.
Smoke removal fan should have a flow rate of 8 ACH.
CO level should not exceed 50 PPM or 100 PPM during peak periods.
2/3 of the air should be extracted from upper levels (min. 2.2 M) and 1/3 from lower level (0.3M) from floor level.
If the parking area exceeds 4000 M², separate supply / exhaust fans modules should be used with an extra exhaust fan as a standby.
All utilities inside the parking shall be ventilated with a separate mechanical system and should achieve a positive pressure of 12 Pa.
All fans involved in parking ventilation or smoke removal shall be provided with emergency power source.
