Gazwareen Driftwood Furniture is the precious child of Designer Maker Shahir Maged, producing hand crafted, aesthetic, sturdy and faithfully functional Green Furniture from Driftwood collected piece by piece form the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Alexandrian born and raised, Shahir, grew up between Alexandria and Agami, in close relation to the Mediterranean, aspiring all its colors and influen

ces and forging a tight bond with its energy. Drawn with a big love to the sea and wood, due to the influence of his father, Prof. Dr. Maged Mikhail, who loved the sea and carpentry, Shahir started collecting driftwood from the beach. He was inspired by the rustic beauty of this wood, worn out by the elements after travelling the seas and acquiring all its spirit. Coming from a family of doctors and professors he studied and trained to be an Orthopaedic surgeon and chose bone surgery specifically because of its resemblance to wood work. After practicing medicine for ten years as a successful doctor while doing wood work as a serious hobby, he decided to quit surgery and dedicate his time to his lifelong passion of working with wood. Today, he combines the elements of beauty, simplicity and the historical value of the driftwood to produce furniture and household items that are not only artistic but practical, very durable and filled with good energy as they are made with a lot of love, Mazag and attention to detail. In addition, making driftwood furniture is a form of recycling. Most of the wood he uses would have ended up as garbage or just burnt. Shahir has always been in love with nature and concerned with its well-being. Thus, bringing art and green thinking together to produce furniture that is useful for everyday life seems to be the ultimate goal for him.

Available now. Gazwareen glass table — a statement coffee table sized at 160 × 80 × 45 cm, built around an authentic Gazwareen tree trunk preserved and naturally cured for over 30 years. Every contour, crack, and grain on the surface carries the marks of time, preserving a piece of history within the wood itself.

The table is crowned with a thick 15 mm tempered glass top engineered to withstand the demands of everyday living while maintaining a light, floating presence in the space.

Its rich deep-black finish is achieved through repeated surface charring — a traditional preservation technique that permanently enriches the color while strengthening and protecting the wood for generations to come. To contrast the dark organic form, every natural crack and crevice has been hand-filled with proprietary turquoise wood paste, adding depth, character, and a subtle sense of glamour.

More than a coffee table, this piece is a fusion of nature, craftsmanship, time, and love — a functional sculpture with a soul.

Available now. This table is a piece of history. Crafted from a 30-year-preserved Gazwareen tree, the wood has been carefully cured and treated to transform it into a timeless statement of beauty and character.
Measuring 160 × 80 cm and topped with tempered glass designed to withstand everyday use, the table stands at a height of 45 cm — balancing elegance with practicality.
The natural cracks and marks of age are accentuated using my proprietary turquoise wood paste, celebrating the tree’s story rather than hiding it. Its deep black finish is achieved through a meticulous process of repeated surface charring, creating a color that will never fade while adding an extra layer of preservation to the wood itself.
This is more than furniture. It is a work of time, patience, and love.

Menhir is a term that describes a big irregular stone that was placed on sacred sites in prehistoric times. Made from a huge piece of solid oak that was part of the spine of a big fishing boat. This chair is the culmination of my driftwood furniture design and manufacture experience. Simple, comfortable and solid like a rock.
