Some Things Deserve a Comeback

At .design.week 2026, we present the Z.Stuhl, an exhibition that connects design, history and material innovation.

Designed in 1971 by Ernst Moeckl, the chair was one of the first cantilever designs made from a single molded plastic form. Produced in both East and West Germany, it became part of everyday life and a rare symbol of shared design culture.

After decades of near disappearance, the Z.Stuhl was rediscovered and carefully brought back into production.

In Milan, this story becomes a spatial experience. Designed by .studio, the exhibition stages the chair as its central protagonist, combining form, color and narrative. Lighting by adds depth and highlights the sculptural quality of the Z.Stuhl.

The exhibition can still be visited today and tomorrow.

Design Talk at .design.week 2026

Yesterday we hosted our Design Talk about the Z.Stuhl at .milano and explored the story behind the chair by Ernst Moeckl.

The conversation connected production, exhibition, and history, with insights from .pauline, Patrick Nagel from .otto, and Thomas Edelmann, showing why this design still resonates today.

Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Visit our exhibition at Design Republic Milano until April 25.
