I thought I had it under control.
My wife finally took a rare moment for herself. Just a short stroll, nothing dramatic. She left me at home with all three kids. I told her, “Don’t worry, I can handle it.”
The baby was in my arms, soft and calm against my chest. The two older boys, five and three, were happily playing on the floor.
Perfect.
But then, like lightning, the peace cracked.
A toy dispute. A shove. Suddenly, they were screaming, hitting, rolling across the carpet like a pair of wild animals.
And there I was: one arm holding our four month old, the other trying desperately to pull them apart.
The baby started crying. Then the boys started crying.
Triple screaming. Worried neighbors knocking on the door.
By the time my wife walked back through the door, I was drenched in sweat, nerves stretched thin. I just fell, literally fell, into my Butterfly Chair, baby still on my chest, and sighed with the deepest relief.
(And yes, the picture above is my mental escape. It is exactly what closing my eyes in this chair feels like. The actual room right now is covered in crushed crackers and toy trucks.)
I know, not all of you have three little ones turning the living room into a battlefield.
But we all have our version of chaos.
And sometimes the best you can do is fall into a chair that does not let you down.
Do you have a tip for these moments? How do you handle it when everything explodes at once?
