¡Soy yo! AMES Y OUR PEOPLE
Bringing Colombian joie de vivre to your living room by creating wonderful, unique and traditionally handcrafted designs is one of ames’s main goals. But there are other aspects that are very important for our company: a happy team is always of top priority. ames has close and personal contact to the artesanos who manufacture the collections in various regions in Colombia. Behind every product is a beautiful story of craftsmanship, tradition and independence. ames encourages single mothers and young men without career opportunities as well as small family-run manufacturies in outlying regions. It is Ana María’s sincere wish to support the people of her home country and to uphold traditional crafts which otherwise be forgotten. Furthermore, ames values sustainability and environment protection. We focus on a resource-friendly production and use mainly natural materials for all of our products.

Textile design has been central to Mae Engelgeer’s journey, from her studies at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute to her Masters at the Sandberg Instituut. Since opening her studio in 2013, she’s been driven by a passion for craft techniques, pushing the boundaries of textile production by adapting traditional methods for modern life. This vision made her collaboration with Ames so unique, as she discovered the skill of Colombian artisans using materials like fique plant fibers. Her designs combine subtle color palettes, patterns, and linear elements, resulting in complex compositions that achieve new harmonies and timeless beauty.⁣

The Cartagenas Reina Chair is a stunning eye-catcher that stands out with its unique character and bold colors, making it a conversation piece that engages and invites where it’s found.

The name “Reina,” Spanish for “Queen,” pays tribute to Cartagena’s spirited celebration of independence during the Fiestas Novembrinas. Just like the parades of pre-colonial Kings and Queens, the Reina Chair commands attention and admiration.
