Ex-Alibaba Employee Sued for Exposing Platform Drawbacks | Why I Skip Alibaba.com
The recent viral lawsuit news in the foreign trade industry has sparked heated discussions: a former Alibaba employee was sued for sharing the three biggest drawbacks of Alibaba.com. The platform filed a reputation infringement lawsuit, claiming compensation of $73,500 (RMB 500,000).
Many clients have asked me why I have never opened an Alibaba.com store and have no plans to launch one in the future.
Today I share my real, industry-based reasons — no bias, just practical experience from years of B2B foreign trade operations👇
1. Massive invalid & low-quality traffic
Alibaba.com generates huge traffic, but most of it is non-target visitors, tire kickers, and low-value inquiries. It wastes tremendous time and energy on filtering useless messages instead of focusing on genuine wholesale buyers.
2. Complicated, frequently changed rules, high operating costs for small & medium suppliers
The platform rules update constantly and unpredictably. For small and medium manufacturers, it requires continuous time, manpower, and money to adapt, greatly raising the threshold and operating pressure of daily store operation.
3. Severe price comparison & vicious price competition
Buyers are accustomed to sourcing and comparing quotes from dozens of suppliers on the platform. The homogeneous competition has evolved into a brutal price war, squeezing profit margins extremely thin. Quality manufacturers can hardly maintain reasonable profits.
4. Mandatory AI binding & rising platform fees
The platform forces suppliers to bind AI tools, with the annual service fee rising from $4,380 (RMB 29,800) to $5,264 (RMB 35,800). Higher costs, yet no guaranteed effective orders.
For me, stable quality, sincere communication, and reliable long-term cooperation are far more important than blindly investing in a crowded, high-cost, low-return platform.
We focus on serving genuine, high-quality global buyers with competitive products and trustworthy service.
