Ms. Dorthy elaborated on AMTC’s form representation process, highlighting the advantages of parametric modeling. The result was an iconic 3D-printed sculpture, meticulously replicating the proportional scale of the vivo X Fold 3 smartphone.
In the sculpture, the phone’s slim profile was dramatically exaggerated to create a striking visual statement. The large-scale print, designed as an adult hand with the vivo X Fold 3 effortlessly resting between the index and middle fingers, became a powerful symbol of Vivo's marketing vision. The balanced placement of the phone, coupled with the gesture of ease, vividly conveyed the smartphone’s lightweight and slim design, transforming these features into a tactile experience for viewers.
“We aimed to strike the perfect balance between brand expression and manufacturing quality, with the lightweight design concept central to our approach. The internal lattice structure within the 3D-printed sculpture was key to achieving this lightweight effect. By leveraging 3D printing technology, we were able to bring Vivo’s vision of a streamlined design to life,” explained Ms. Dorthy, the team’s printing manager.
AMTC selected Ultrafuse® ASA as the primary material for the sculpture, balancing structural integrity with aesthetic precision. Ultrafuse® ASA’s superior heat and weather resistance, combined with mechanical properties akin to ABS, made it ideal for outdoor displays. Its durability ensures the sculpture remains resistant to wear, degradation, or fading, even in harsh conditions.
By combining parametric modeling with a resilient 3D printing material, AMTC not only shortened production time but also optimized resources for the fast-paced project. “Completing this challenging task within just twenty days is a clear testament to the efficiency and capabilities of 3D printing technology,” Ms. Dorthy concluded, expressing her pride at the close of the interview.
