7 1/4” wide 2 1/2” deep this combination of wood, antler and resin bowl created a number of challenges. The pieces are off-cuts from other projects that were saved and molded into a rough shaped bowl. That was the easiest part. Cutting the bowl with various materials, hardness, and grain direction trying to get a smooth finish tested me. Finished with several coats of food safe wax.

And so it begins, another wood/resin bowl. Bits and pieces of walnut, oak, maple, deer antler, mulberry, ash, guanancoste, canary wood, elm, and olive wood molded, cured and then cut to shape. The finish will be multi-layers of food safe shellac and wax. Should be decorative and functional.

Finished one last piece before Sunday’s craft show at 970 Front St Lasalle.
Apple wood has such great colour and grain formation but as all fruit woods, it starts cracking immediately when drying after cutting. This characteristic creates challenges but the finished product is always worthwhile.
