Purdy Cabinets & Designs Ltd., Williams Lake, BC is hiring.
We are looking for a Shop Forman to start immediately.
Wage negotiable.
Full-time, Permanent
• Experienced, hard-working cabinet maker required immediately for full-time permanent work at a busy custom woodworking and kitchen cabinet shop
• Shift is Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm, some occasional overtime is required to meet deadlines
• We provide all tools
• Successful applicant will be subject to an evaluation period of up to 90 days
Purdy Cabinets & Design operates out of a 6000 sq ft fully equipped shop with the latest equipment including CNC, edge ba**er, panel saw, cabinet saw, HD planer, jointer, thickness sander, air cleaners, commercial grade dust collection system, paint booth with air assisted sprayers and all other types of equipment you would expect in a modern shop.
This position offers the right, qualified person, long term, full-time employment with a balanced variety of projects and duties to keep things interesting and enjoyable.
Duties include:
• Building custom millwork for residential and commercial projects including kitchens, bathrooms, retail, offices and similar projects.
• Building custom laminate countertops with a variety of edge treatments
• Occasionally participating in installing kitchens, commercial millwork and laminate countertops
• Participating in assembly of kitchen, bathroom and commercial cabinetry
• Operating (or willing to learn) high-end equipment such as CNC, automated edge ba**er etc.
• Repairing millwork and furniture
• Performing site measures
• Doing finishing work: Distressing, staining /painting would be an asset, but not required
• Measuring, cutting and capping postform laminate counters
• Helping to load, deliver & unload cabinets, millwork and materials at job sites
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Positive attitude and willing to learn and adapt to new equipment and always look to improve processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and fitted joinery
• Experience in European & North American cabinet construction techniques
• Experience in sheet material joinery (biscuit joinery, etc.) and hardwood preparation.
• Experience in the operation of CNC, automated edge ba**er and similar machinery an asset.
• Fully experienced in plastic laminate work, filing and custom countertops
• Experience in commercial millwork an asset
• Able to work without supervision
• Physically capable of heavy lifting e.g. ¾” MDF or other sheet materials
• Comfortable with basic mathematical calculations
• Follow shop instructions and drawings
• Good communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Willing to participate in every aspect of shop duties, from clean-up to loading of finished product
• Complete projects and assignments in a timely and efficient manner
• Ensure that projects are clean and complete prior to shipping
• Assist in keeping shop area clean and safe
• Grade 12 education or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license a must
