I took a photo of this bird many years ago while still employed at Kruger National Park in South Africa. The Fiery-necked Nightjar is a common bird found in many areas south of the equator in Africa. A nocturnal species, with excellent cryptic camouflage, which is often seen on gravel roads. Often the "red" eye, (actually black), is what is picked up by a spotlight, before the bird takes off in silent flight. The call of this bird is one of the many beautiful and iconic sounds of the African bush. I thought it would make an interesting water colour. 🤔😁

I am all too familiar with the loss of a special companion, so I was more than happy to accept a commission request for this little guy. The feedback I received was tremendous, so I'm happy that I have helped towards ensuring that he remains in a special place in the owner's 💖.
