Semios - Crop Management Platform

Semios - Crop Management Platform Semios delivers on-farm solutions and field services that help growers enhance efficiency, mitigate risk, and boost productivity.

Semios offers a full-service solution that allows growers to monitor real-time in-field conditions. The service includes the installations and maintenance of a wireless network of sensors and controls. The system reports every 10 mins and the data is hosted on the cloud. The analysis is available on PCs via our web interface and on apps for mobile devices. Semios offers modules for pests, disease,

weather, frost and irrigation. Pests: Semios offers automated camera-enabled insect traps that are remotely analyzed night, providing the grower and consultants with daily counts. The trap counts are displayed over the degree days calculated for that orchard, based on local weather inputs. We also offer remotely controlled dispensers that deliver pheromones, an alternative to pesticides, when and where needed. Semios has a range of registered conventional and organic-certified pheromone products for pests such as navel orangeworm (NOW), codling moth (CM), oriental fruit moth, (OFM), oblique banded leaf rollers (OBLR), European grape berry moth (EGBM) and European Grape Vine Moth (EGVM). Disease: Semios offers leaf wetness sensors that, when combined with other environmental conditions, provide insights into disease risk thresholds. Disease models continue to be added and already include fireblight and alternaria. Weather: All Semios deployments include weather stations that report precipitation, humidity, wind direction, wind speed, barometric pressure, wetbulb and temperature. Frost: Semios offers insights into the risk of frost events and the best mitigation strategy. We measure temperature difference below and above canopy to confirm and calculate the strength of an inversion, which would validate the use of frost wind fans. We also measure sprinkler thresholds for irrigation frost control. Irrigation: Semios offers real-time analysis of soil mositure levels. Using industry-leading digital time domain transmissometry (TDT) water sensors for shallow (eg 1’) and deep (eg 3’) readings with an accuracy of 2%. We also offer soil temperature readings at both levels wtih 0.1 degree accuracy.

In our latest Faces of Semios spotlight, meet Justin Pearson, our Territory Manager for Washington!

Coming from a small town outside Wenatchee, Justin did all sorts of odd jobs on farms growing up. From a young age, he thought he'd never end up in ag, but his winding career path eventually brought him right back home to the ag community.

Now in his seventh year at Semios, Justin leverages his previous field operations experience as Branch Manager to help growers navigate the complexities of the Washington tree fruit industry with the right tech solutions.

Fun fact: 🎣 When he's not in the field, Justin is a passionate outdoorsman. He once landed a massive 10-foot white sturgeon!

This year, we’re seeing an accelerated development of California Red Scale (CRS) caused by the higher temperatures. This is raising concerns about an earlier 4th generation and the possibility of a 5th generation.

Using data from our network of weather stations, we broke down the following on our blog:
- How CRS DD accumulation stands today across California
- What’s the average DD accumulation by key counties
- How this year’s DD accumulation compares with previous years

Proud of the incredible work by our Field Services team who go the extra mile (literally) for our customers! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at a recent installation our team did out in Arizona. Whether it was dealing with the rain, sandstorms, or heat, to finding gas stations that were out of fuel, they adapted and got the job done.

We’re proud to feature our Fresno County Territory Manager, Ashlee DeSilva, in the latest installation of our Faces of Semios series!

From her early days growing up on a family dairy farm (yes, that’s young Ashlee with her grandpa in the photo!), she’s gained a deep appreciation for the complexities of ag. She went on to develop a diverse career, from working in an entomology lab to managing over 20,000 acres of permanent crop as an in-house PCA.

After joining Semios in 2024, she’s been using that unique combination of technical and practical knowledge to help growers find the right tech solutions for their operations.

Fun fact: Ashlee regularly volunteers as a judge in FFA contests in her free time 🥇
