We call it The Make Over, although Aleksandra and Ranko insist on describing our restoration simply as “reinstating”. Aleksandra and Ranko, by the way, are a couple who, to use their own words, “reinstate” chairs like us. They began lovingly restoring us to furnish their apartment, when suddenly, more people wanted their own antique chairs, but after The Make Over, of course. From flea markets and scrap heaps, European street corners and markets, Aleksandra and Ranko collect antique chairs and transform them into something beautiful and new: che-chairs. Kad se nakon toliko godina bezpogovornog i časnog služenja svakakvim guzicama nađeš odbačen na nekom uglu, ovo možeš samo sanjati. Svejedno jesi li fotelja, stolica iz blagovaonice, pripadajuća uz radni stol, šank, ili cijeli život provela u nekom kutu, na uglu pomišljaš na najgore. Bidermajer, Windsor ili Alt Deutsch, tapicirana ili drvena, štepana ili ljepljena, ni na uglu ne priznaješ da je tvoje vrijeme prošlo. Ono što se tada, sad već prije dvije godine, dogodilo nekolicini nas prvo iz Varaždina, dok nas je danas preko 20 od svuda, revolucionarno je i za sve ostale, znači stolice. U jednoj garaži doživjele smo svoje uskrsnuće, reinkarnaciju, ponovno rođenje poput Venere iz morske pjene, omega je postala alfa, kraj – početak…
Mi u garaži to zovemo make over, iako Aleksandra i Ranko uporno tvrde da nas restauriraju, zvuči tako staromodno. A Aleksandra i Ranko su par, par ljudi koji nas, neka im je, restaurira. Počeli su s onima iz podruma, za svoj prvi zajednički stan, a onda su i neki drugi ljudi poželjeli stolice s ugla, ali nakon make overa, razumije se. S buvljaka, krupnih otpada, uglova ili preporučeno sa svih strana u garažu neprestalno pristižu nove stare, a izlaze nove novcate stolice.
