Vancouver screenwriters! There is a new screenwriting challenge coming to our discord server!

Do you want to be a part of a film production? Do you have access to a location? If you do, and your location is selected, you will be on the crew.

That's just the first part of this special challenge. Once a location is selected, a screenwriting challenge will be announced to write a short script based on that location. The winning script will be the one that is filmed, and the writer will also be a part of the crew. (The writer submitting the location is still eligible to have their script selected for filming.)

This is an opportunity to have your work professionally filmed and to be a part of that filmmaking experience. Join our discord and submit your locations to be a part of a brand initiative.

Our community of screenwriters and filmmakers continues to grow! We have new members joining every week and new faces each month and the meetups, and our discord server is growing as well.

I am working on some new initiatives for this year, opportunities for our members to have their work brought in to table reads and maybe to be filmed. These opportunities will be given to members who actively participate in our in person meetups or online on the discord server, so join us to hear more about them and be a part of our network.

Our Discord server is adding a new writing exercise starting next month!

We already have the One Page Challenge, a weekly exercise to write a single page script meeting the criteria of the challenge. It's a tough but fun exercise that truly does challenge you to be concise and effective with your writing. All entries receive feedback, making it a fun and rewarding exercise to help improve your writing.

Starting later this month, we will also have a One Week Challenge. The goal will be to write a short script, between 3 and 10 pages, that meets the criteria given. Participants will have one week to submit a script, and the scripts will be ANONYMOUS. Scripts will be posted separately, feedback provided, and they will be voted on with the reward of bragging rights and having a completed short script to add to your portfolio. Short scripts are what get filmed and may even end up in festivals, so take advantage of this FREE opportunity to hone your craft and write more scripts.

Our Question of the Day is back and bigger than ever! Some of the topics are truly thought-provoking and discussions around them have been quite educational and inspirational.

Some of our members have recently had successes in contests, Run-n-Gun, and festivals! Come hang out with new and veteran screenwriters and get all the news and opportunities as they come up, ask questions, and get the support you need to improve your chances of being a successful screenwriter.
