In the process of design, the challenge is to promote individuality and personality, two desirable characteristics admired in a furniture piece. Creating these characteristics is a weighted choice of positive and negative space, finishes and substrates, contrasting colors and textures, the use of domestic and exotic hardwoods, glass, metal,paper, plywood's and other materials that are defined by their details.

Just this morning I removed the first skirt from the vacuum bag for the table top. I have already placed the second on the form and placed it in the vacuum bag. I will let the lamination cook in the bag for twelve hours.

I am back. My long hiatus from you viewers has been spent well in my shop finishing six chairs - less the upholstery- and forming the skirts to the accompanying table.

Out of a portion of the 80 board feet of mahogany all four chairs, that's 36 individual parts, has been shaped to size. Marking the placement of some 14 dowels with location templates followed by drilling 1/4" dowel holes is next.

Received the 80 board feet today. Skimmed the one face of each board to grade the color and grain pattern. Chalked out where each member of the Transitional chair, four times, paying attention to the grain and shape of each template.

It is great to be back! It has been busy the last several weeks. At least several hundred visitors came to the shop during the Crawl. All my furniture got great remarks. Just picked out over 80 board feet of Honduras Mahogany. The Danish Transitional dining chairs will be the first of the dinette set I will construct. I will keep you people posted on the progress of the dinette set.

Hello every one. The Sequoia Bench is a design exercise of many parallel horizontal lines. The concentration of many parallel maple members light in color provide a contrast against the darker negative spaces. Keeping the negative space half the width of each maple member , give the maple wood visual dominance. As any one can imagine this bench is an analogy of a Sequoia log in modern design.

The whole process of design is appreciated by the designer because it provides the individual a conduit to avoid consequences that could render costly materials junk because of short sighted and ill prepared persons who did not appreciate the organizational qualities of design.
