Reached a build milestone on this coffee table commission. All the parts are glued up.

I took some time before the final glue up to sand the inside curve on both halves of the table, since it was going to be difficult to sand up against the spine in the middle of the table. I didn't feel like I had the best tools or plan for sanding that curve, but I got it figured out. 😅

Like always, I am humbled by this craft of woodworking... There are so many steps and so many ways to things up along the way... especially with a one-off.

I had an "oh s**t!" moment yesterday in the middle of my final glue up.... I had to move the entire setup after I had stacked the two pieces with glue, because my clamps weren't Long enough to squeeze the table and the jig I had it sitting on. Fortunately, I still have some quick reflexes in me!

The last critical profile has taken shape. This will act as the backbone for the suspended end of the table.

I tried to make it as discreet as possible so that from most angles, looking down at the table, you won't see this support. It's a coffee table so it's only going to be about ~16" tall

I bought this kick-ass router bit from , It's slightly intimidating to use in an open table top like this, but it's been working perfectly as intended, made the whole flush trim process go so smoothly! 👌

I had to repeat this flush trim process for 13 pieces. (1.5" thick walnut)

Well, I'm making a new piece of furniture... It's exciting and slightly daunting!

This is the early stages of a c-shaped coffee table commission, for an old friend.

It's going to be a lamination 13 profiles, each profile made up of four to five pieces.

Working with 2" thick solid Walnut, which is slightly nerve-wracking because it's a valuable material, but a welcomed challenge.

The first image in videos are of a modified dowel drilling jig I made. The little black metal block in the middle is made of steel...to help get evenly spaced perpendicular holes into the material.

This way when I go to glue up the blocks the surfaces stay aligned and don't shift under the clamping force.

Despite having been born in the '80s... I never had much draw to the '80s vibe, until recently... These past few years I've really been digging '80s music...and design. Something has shifted.

Maybe it's my soul appreciating the vibrancy of that decade, which came through in our soundscape and very literally through the bright colors in fashion trends.

Seems like a great time to channel back in this vibrant nature of ours!

I named this shoe design "SANDIES", both because the my texture inspiration being sand dunes, but also because it sounds playful to me, and alludes to playing in the sand.

We all have a playful spirit... whether we let it shine often and or not. I know I came here to play....that's high on my list.

If you read this far.... I want you to know that I'm here in the sandbox with you... And I think we should crank this s**t up!! ⚡💜🪩

Throw back to a magical collaboration I had with designer Kim Mcclymont. We went to design school together back in the day, and reconnected a few years back via . We then collaborated on a beautiful piece of art which exhibited only for a short while at the .

Kim was critical to helping bring shape to some of my chaotic ideas. We had so much fun...I feel we created something really beautiful. I wish it could have ended up in some fancy hotel lobby bar somewhere.

I don't think she's here on Instagram, but this popped into my head as approaches again this year!
