A new light...transformed

METEM standing lamp

Come see it in person this September 24-27th at the Interior Design Show West, in Vancouver.

Edges have been rounded and smoothed, much like driftwood on the beach....worn over time.

Last few process shots of this standing...

On Friday I did an ebonizing finish on the cedar parts...and they came out nice and chocolatey!

I left it for a day to dry after a top coat, and today I assembled everything.

I still need to take some nice final photos, so those are coming soon!

Knight helmet, for the chess players/dancers in. Descendants

I had the pleasure of working on a stellar team at Ocean Drive Leather (Film/TV) last year, to design and fabricate this piece along with many other helmets.

This one was my personal favorite. The metal mesh inserts were a little bit tricky to install but we figured it out. Everything came together in the end.... You might even say it came down to the wire! 😅

This coffee table commission is nearly complete!

It's been quite a pleasure to work on, and always a humbling experience tackling something new, where I've only given myself one shot at it! In this case, I'm working with $1K worth of walnut, so there wasn't much room for error, after a certain amount of cutting and gluing.

I've been woodworking on and off for most of my life... With no formal training in fine woodworking... Just self-taught.

I have so much left to learn, and I'm looking forward to the journey deeper into this craft.

Final shaping steps completed today....did one last pass with the big chamfer bit, then a small chamfer around the inner edge.... before hand carving the rounded shapes. All that's left is a final light sanding and then finish.

Gotta say it....I was a bit nervous to dig into this table with coarse rasps and files, after all the hours I'd already put in. Fortunately, it went well once I got a rhythm going...I really do love hand carving. Brings me back to when I was little...whittling spoons and other widgets!
