I wanted to capture the energy of a forest on fire. The light shining through and embers floating. The aww and radiant beauty before the destruction.

This is a mixed media painting and features some sneaky tidbits of vintage sheet music, poems and nature inspired stoires - all gone up in smoke. Copper foil, paint and mica provide that ethereal fire.

Youā€™ve got to eat anyway, why not make it beautiful?

All the pieces on this table were thrifted or antiqued. Some pieces came with me from NY while others I found right here in Nova Scotia! Beautiful pieces full of history and made to stand the test of time exist right here in our own backyard! But it takes time. You donā€™t often find it all at once.

And hereā€™s the thing. Your busy!! You donā€™t have time to visit all the yard sales, estate sales, antique shops and markets. Or maybe you do! But you get overwhelmed by all the other stuff. Or maybe you see the piece and say ā€œI donā€™t know what Iā€™d do with that.ā€

This is where I can help! Creating a collection can take a little longer then ordering online, but Iā€™ll do the hunting for you and create you a table scape or find those unique decor pieces and furnishings that make your soul just feel happy.

Everything is prettier when itā€™s thrifted ā¤ļø

Iā€™ve really been wanting a glass mug and when I stumbled upon this one while visiting the Goodwill near our hotel Augusta, Maine I was smitten.

I love thrifting/ antiquing for this very reason. Because I knew if I was patient the universe would provide me a little treasure that is just unlike anything we can get today without paying more money then I can afford for a single cup.

Green velvet, lots of cushions and black walls.

With the move of the playroom we ended up relocating my husbandā€™s office to that room and will be doubling it as a guest room. Which left his former office space at the front of the house needing a new direction.

The space is on the smaller side and already has a wall of built in bookshelves. Iā€™ve always wanted a reading room but we still needed another guest bed.

When I found this beautiful velvet trundle bed it was the perfect solution. It gives that old world library charm, a cost space to curl up and read and two additional sleeping spots!

Remember that beautiful playroom?!

Well it didnā€™t last šŸ«£šŸ«£šŸ«£šŸ«£

These are the challenges of new homes. You think youā€™ve got it, then you sit with it for a while and realize itā€™s just not right. And thatā€™s ok!

We realized the playroom was better suited closer to my studio to help me with the short school days šŸ« 

Meanwhile what was the playroom will become my husbandā€™s new office space and double as a guest space.

With all the US/ Can regulatory and import changes in the last several months we had to leave my ā€œtruckā€ behind in NY with friends. But we were finally able to bring it to NS this past week so my husband and I did a rescue mission to go and get it! This vehicle lets me haul our extended family, alllll the furniture, project materials and anything else we might need! With this backfill finally be able to move some things around!

Stay tuned, weā€™re still sorting things around the house and Iā€™m still sorting plans and details for Root + Revival and .art

But at least this makes some things a little easier!

Thrift Tip for all the plant lovers out there!

Donā€™t just walk by those old glass severing trays! Ive learned plants need drainage and even with double potting accidents happen and water can seep out of the bottom when you want your plants. If you donā€™t want to ruin your floors you maybe have something under your pots if youā€™re good šŸ˜œ. But the ones from the stores are usually just terracotta flats or plastic flats. BORING!

Elevate the look of your home AND plants with these beautiful old glass trays! Theyā€™ll make your home feel special and get you a little closer to being thrift rich šŸ˜Theyā€™re not a well wanted item and often just sit at the thrift stores for a long time, so there is usually a healthy selection. You can often find them in the cooking/ bakeware section. Donā€™t pay more than $5 (unless itā€™s unreal).

And all you need to do is pop it under your planter! How easy was that! Now your floors and tables are protected and your plants are happy AND you saved something from the dump while supporting your local community ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Does this make you feel overwhelmed and anxious? Itā€™s ok. I used to feel that way too when stepping into antique and thrift stores. The smells, so much to see, the feelings, trying to look at all the things and having no idea what it even is some times. Thatā€™s ok!

If you love a curated home and love ā€œrealā€ old things, but feel overwhelmed digging through and traveling to shops like this, Iā€™m here to help.

Roof + Revival aims to bridge that gap, doing the leg work so you can more easily find the piece that belongs to you. I see potential in items you may overlook, and Iā€™m not afraid of working with a piece to bring out its true potential.

Though I donā€™t have an established retail space yet I am actively searching for where its roots will be planted. Until then, Iā€™ll post some of my finds here in my stories, and share how I use them.
