Parkdale Trading Company is a joint venture established by the creative minds of Kiran Thind & Rodrigo Andrade. Working under the motto “Local First,” PTC collaberates with a multitude of artists, designers and craftspeople to create high quality, hand-made goods with an end goal of becoming a neighbourhood department store. Wherever possible, PTC uses locally sourced goods and services to create their work and are committed to strengthening community by supporting local businesses.

Many thanks to .bacus of and her team for being a part of the PTC crew for the past 2.5 years.

We’ve worked together in various capacities over nearly 2 decades (seriously, where has the time gone) and it’s always been a pleasure.

Your efforts to take my half-formed ideas on what I would help me run things more effectively and turn them into actual forms and processes have been much appreciated. Same with all the hard work that’s gone into handling social media posts.

Also, thanks for your patience with my not always keeping up my end of the work when projects and deadlines took over.

🎬 Sharing a behind-the-scenes look at our work in action!

Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to work on a custom banquette featuring millwork by Kerr’s Cabinetry, and fabric by Charlotte Fabrics.

Taylor and I completed the upholstery and installation.

Banquette seating makes a floor plan more compact while at the same time, making it feel more spacious.

It’s a great solution for small or large open-plan spaces!

📸 I’m usually behind the scenes!

In 2012, I had the opportunity to pose with one of my creations for photos that were used to promote that year’s Chair Affair Gala in support of Furniture Bank.

This chair was inspired by the very first chair I did for the Chair Affair Gala in 2010 which featured a corsetted back.

In the early stages of my career, I was having a lot of fun experimenting with different sorts of unusual and repurposed materials. I’ve always been interested in exploring creativity by experimenting with unique pieces.

Founded in 1998, Furniture Bank is a registered charity and social enterprise which redistributes gently used furniture and housewares from donors in the community to families and individuals experiencing furniture poverty.

Revenues generated through their furniture removal service, which is run as a social enterprise, fund their charitable activities as they work to end furniture poverty – one sofa and one family at a time.

Chair Affair Galas featured pieces chosen from the Furniture Bank warehouse to be restored and reupholstered for auction at the event by local designers and artisans.

🍻 Have you visited The 222 Bar at Dundas and Ossington?

The 222 is a dimly lit, intimate bar serving elevated cocktails, beer and premium liquors - the perfect date night spot. It’s a low-key, yet upscale vibe with candles on each table and orange-hued lighting inside.

When the owners took over the space, the whole place was gutted so they could build out the bar, adding in carpet and overall cozy-ing up the atmosphere.

We were asked to upholster the bar rail as part of this bar makeover. We upholstered the bar in Charlotte Fabrics Ultrahyde, an extremely durable and stain-resistant faux leather.

🪟 These large window seats are a beautiful feature of a newly built home in the country near Creemore, ON designed by Collingwood-based design and millwork shop AG Designs.

The extended window seats feature luxurious down-wrapped cushions in fabric by Avant Garde Fabrics in pink and Kravet in green.

The 2015 Chair Affair in support of Furniture Bank was an exciting one!

Pieces were chosen from the Furniture Bank warehouse to be restored and reupholstered for auction at the event.

This gorgeous writing desk and stool stood out to us, and it was decided.

The project would be a collaboration with bespoke shoemaker Peter Feeney Bespoke Footwear. Rodrigo and I had experience with the event - this would be Rodrigo’s 3rd and my 5th time participating, however it was Peter’s very first time.

It was a treat to work alongside Peter and absorb his expertise in leather work. We gave the desk a new top with hand dyed and brogued veg tanned leather and we reupholstered the stool with a red and gold geometric print fabric with black leather trim.

The chair was auctioned off by Olivia Chow. The set was purchased by HGTV host Sandra Rinomato for the highest ever Chair Affair bid at the time.
