In 1970, NASA engineers were trying to solve a specific problem: how do you position a human body so that launch forces don't destroy it?
The answer was to recline the astronaut at an angle where the knees sit slightly above the heart, the head is gently raised, and body weight distributes evenly across the full surface area rather than concentrating at the heaviest points β hips, lower back, heels.
Zero gravity position. The name stuck.
What NASA discovered, and what sleep researchers have confirmed since, is that this position does something useful outside of rocket ships too. It takes compressive load off the lumbar spine. It improves circulation by reducing the work the heart has to do against gravity. For people who snore, elevating the head reduces the airway collapse that causes it. For acid reflux, keeping the upper body raised means stomach acid stays where it belongs.
The PE Contour base at Sidney Mattress & More has this position pre-set. One button. You don't have to think about the angle or fiddle with the remote β it just takes you there.
Most people who try it in the store make the same face. A kind of quiet surprise, like they expected a gimmick and got something that actually works.
You're welcome to come find out for yourself. No appointment needed β just walk in.
