WoodWRKS is the studio workshop of Dave Clarke. Dave has always had a special interest in wood and items created using one of the world’s oldest building materials. From working alongside his grandfather in his workshop, taking extra woodworking classes, and continually developing his skills in his ever expanding workshop, working with wood has always been part of Dave’s life. s Canada in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario and now makes his home in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick. He has explored a wide variety of wood in these ecologically diverse areas and learned from various craftsmen across the country. Dave has a Bachelor of Science and two post-secondary diplomas, all in the field of earth science. He has consulted in the resource sector in ecology, terrain and forestry. His understanding of the natural world has given him a profound appreciation of forests and has helped develop his respect for wood and its role as a renewable resource. Dave’s work specializes in Canadian wood species and he practices sustainable forestry. He has used wood from mature, dead standing or downed trees for preservation in traditional jointed woodwork. For Dave, woodworking is more than just building furniture, he considers the growth of a tree, the appropriateness of falling it, how to best mill it, and then designs and builds custom pieces that showcase the natural beauty of wood. The wood used may have taken anywhere from decades to centuries to grow and Dave preserves it in a product that can be enjoyed for generations to come.
