Portage Nightwatch Protection Services SECURITY YOU CAN COUNT ON!

06/21/2025

Evening all.
Just a little information on our little company. Even though we are only working on our 4th year, some of our team members have a bit more experience in Security. Tonight, lets take a look at one of them.
Lest start off with myself.
I have been doing security since 1988. First started off in Winnipeg with a couple of older companies. At the same time, I was with the military. So whenever I wasn't training, I was working security. Hotel to High-rise buildings to malls. Did that till 1997, went to Edmonton Alberta, worked there for a few different companies as well. One company in particular had it's own Security Career College attached. Learned a lot from them. Learned skills for Loss Prevention, Mobile Patrols, Alarm Response and K-9 Handling. Took a course through the Edmonton Police service called Cooperative Policing. Basically learned how to use and fill out their paperwork when it comes to arrests and a few other interesting things. Did some Oil Field camp security, a new set of skills for camp security. Personal protection for a few celebrities visiting Edmonton along the way.
Held a Private Investigators License at the same time as a Security guards License. Did some work in that field for a while.
The one company that had it's own college, also had a Victims Assistance Foundation. Helped abused individuals get out of tight spots. Did that line of work a few times.
So as you can see, I have a little bit of experience in the Security Field. This knowledge and set of skills is what I bring to our little company.
So, that is it for my skill set in Security. Next time, we will do a spotlight on another member of our team.

That's it for now, take care everyone and be safe.

Good evening all. Well, it has come to my attention there are some things being said about the Team here at Portage Nightwatch. I have tried to reach out to the individual, but no response.
Since we opened our doors 4 years ago, we have had a lot of negative things said about us. We have always let it slide because we know who is saying it and why. Every time we take on a new client, we get some love from the individuals involved. The latest one is a little bit funny. Too bad people are not honest enough to tell the whole truth, not just what gives them their 15 seconds of fame. I just want to remind everyone, we have dash cams in every vehicle that are recording during the shifts. Each member of our mobile team wears a body camera that is recording for not only our safety but for the safety of the people we deal with on a regular basis. We have been wearing them since month one. We keep the footage for a long period of time so when an incident happens, we have it. Every interaction is recorded. A password is required to access the footage, for quality control and we match up the times with the incident. Now with that reminder being said, those individuals who like to be keyboard warriors, try to have some proof, because we do. Try a little bit harder, we are not going anywhere.
Thank you for allowing me to say this and take care everyone, be safe.

We had the opportunity to participate in the Fright Night event at the Fort La Reine Museum. It was a fantastic event! For two nights we got to see a lot of the community come out and enjoy the festivities. The curator, staff and volunteers did a fantastic job decorating the buildings. Did get a chance to enjoy a bit of the event, the actors did great in scaring some of the folks. There is a lot of history in that little museum. A huge "Well done!" to all that participated. Although it was our first Fright Night, we are looking forward for the opportunity to experience many more. Again, a huge Well Done! Take care and be safe everyone.

Been awhile since we posted a security tip. Here is one for you.

Security Tip of the month - Cameras

Lights on in your yard at night, either motion sensitive or permanently on, is a good deterrent. Adding cameras to your property adds to the deterrent level. Before you go and add cameras to your property, whether it be for business or personal, make sure you do research into the type you want. Cameras range in price from affordable to extremely expensive. The size can range from a simple doorbell camera to a 6 inch industrial exterior camera. You can have ones with auto adjustment, zoom, day/night abilities and so forth. Always look to reviews when purchasing a camera for your property.
These days, with smart technology, you can have the view of your camera sent to your phone or tablet whenever you choose. Whenever there is an alert, motion, or simply to just have a look at the weather before heading home from that vacation you’re on. Keep these in mind when purchasing cameras for your home/business. Whether it be cheap or expensive, the most important factor you have to consider is placement of the cameras. A lot of companies will suggest where they would place them, how many to have, and then try to convince you to purchase them for those areas. When in reality, a few choice spots could cover your location with less cameras then suggested. I, myself, have two covering my home that alert me when someone enters my yard, driveway, back yard and garage. With just two choice locations, I'm 90% covered. You can try to be 100% covered, but there will always be a blind spot. So if you wish to have cameras adding to the security of your property, remember that the location of the cameras is key to helping secure your property.

Take care and Be safe everyone.

Again, if your on the night shift, be safe and a safe return home. If you’re out enjoying the evening’s festivities, remember to take a cab or have a designated driver. Tip of the month: Lights!

As our Mobile Drivers travel the city at night checking on our client's property, we notice a lot of residences have no lights on in their yard. A lot of people seem to rely on cameras to protect their property at night. Cameras are a good deterrent, but lights on in your yard is one as well. As we were taught in school, fires were not only used to cook food and keep warm, it was also used at night to ward off animals. The darker your property, the more likely some one will enter your yard looking for an easy score. Using motion sensor light fixtures will light up the yard if someone decides to enter your property at night. This is just another deterrent you can use to keep your belongings safe. Most individuals use the cover of darkness when they are searching for that next score, don't give them the opportunity, light up your property at night. Keep in mind, no deterrent is 100%, but it may cause these individuals to move on to an easier target.
