I would do the occasional little project here and there, and never really gave it a second thought. A little over a year ago, my husband and I decided to move into a new home after living at our old apartment for over six years. When we first moved into our old apartment, we were young, and we were still discovering our style. Once I knew that we would be moving, I decided that this was the time f
or a fresh new start, and that we should decorate our new place for the people that we had become today. I became obsessed (literally) with Kijiji, and finding items for cheap (or even free) that I could creatively upcycle, and turn into something one of a kind, with character, just for our new home. After we moved, I was delighted to see how well all of my ideas came together for our vintage styled home. When all was said and done though, I was craving more projects to work on, and had I nothing left that I could possibly do for my own home. I began asking friends about projects for their homes, and offering my advice, but it simply wasn’t enough for me. I was told all the time that I should sell my furniture, but at the time, I just wasn’t ready to dive into that venture the way I wanted to. Once I discovered Annie Sloan chalk paint (how versatile and fun it is to use), I realized more than ever before that furniture upcycling is something that I am extremely passionate about. I decided that it was the time to pursue this passion further. It wasn’t a long thought-out process. I think that people are always asked the question of how they made the decision to start something new, whether it be a career or hobby, and the answer is always the same; they just did it. I basically woke up one day and said, “I’m going to sell furniture.”
Since beginning my venture, I’ve been delighted to sell every item I’ve put up for sale, and I’m so incredibly overwhelmed with all of the positive feedback I’ve received. My goal is to keep improving with each and every project, and to save as much quality furniture as I can from taking up space in landfills. I love being able to take something that one person considers trash, and to give it an amazing facelift. It’s such an awesome feeling to know that the pieces that I created are making such wonderful additions to the décor of their new homes.
