A stunning and rare example of an Olmec Maskette, carved of green stone, from the Veracruz region of Mexico, circa 900 BCE. A beautiful example with lovely proportionality and almost swollen features. These masks were worn as bodily ornaments by high ranking elites, nobility or shamans in the Olmec culture as a show of status and rank and are believed to be carved in depiction of ancestral figures. A very rare example and extremely beautiful in it’s visual appeal - displayed on custom stand.

Provenance: important Canadian collection of antiquities, purchased through Doyle, New York, 2000’s.

An incredible and rare example of a Mezcala figure from the state of Guerrero, Mexico, carved of a black serpentine stone, circa 300 BCE. A fantastic example exhibiting deep detail in relief, showcasing the artistry and craft of this incredible figure - a form that has resonated through time and has had deep influence in modern and contemporary art and sculpture. Stylistically, this figure, on the Carlo Gay grading system of Mezcala figures, is of M-22 in form. A lovely example stood upon a custom stand.

Provenance: Important Canadian collection, 2000’s. Purchased through Arte Primitivo by repute.

Beautiful stone architectural feature from a medieval fountain depicting a cross, circa 13th century, from a well known hub for period Knight’s Templar activity, Tomar, Portugal. Of lovely scale and proportion, the cross in wonderful, deep relief, with a carved verso for water to pour through in fountain setting. Quite a striking presence, displayed on contemporary iron stand.

Beautiful carved stone memento mori, dating to the 16th century, France. An incredible depiction of a skull with a hand resting atop - likely a fragmentary piece of a larger depiction of Saint Francis. Beautiful and incredibly emotive, with remains of polychrome across the surface. A stunning memento mori piece acting as a reminder to exist in the present, the inevitability of death offering perspective to life.

A stunning and intriguing example of a Neolithic era altar implement depicting a beak-faced figure carved of basalt stone, circa 4000 - 3000 BCE, from the region of modern day Turkey or Syria. A stunningly textured basalt with incredibly emotive features, carved eyes, a nose, broken off at the bulb, a crown carved in the round - with its most striking featuring being its elongated, beak like face. Likely an implement mounted surrounding a stone ritual altar. A beautifully striking and truly evocative carving, speaking to the rituals of the Neolithic world. Displayed on contemporary acrylic stand.

Provenance: from impressive Canadian antiquity collection, purchased in early 2000’s from New York City gallery.

Bactrian large stone aniconic idol figure, a latge ritual object with unknown usage from a culture that had no written language. Circa 2000 BCE, Central Asia. Beautiful mottled stone with carved flattened bottom, two biconical holes surround the figures top, meeting in the middle. Probable a votive or ritual object with beautiful sculptural presence.

Provenance: Large Canadian Collection, 1990’s
