Our Story
What began as a search to find the ideal, rustic, beachy, cottagey, furniture for our home, evolved into us, Catherine and Tom, a husband and wife team, hand crafting 100% Unique, 100% Canadian, 100% One of a kind, affordable, custom made, furniture and home accessories. Making rustic pieces for our own home, we quickly learned that others, like ourselves, could not find what they were looking for in Ontario - rustic, character filled, and reasonable priced pieces that were not mass produced. The Pine Shack makes each piece from domestic, reclaimed, and environmentally sourced timbers, using Ontario Barn Boards and Lumber from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC- Certified Wood). Our finishes are environmentally sourced, water based products, whenever possible.
Tom, whose background is in carpentry and manufacturing, and Catherine, whose background is design, originally worked in manufacturing Heritage Wood Windows and Doors for many years, supplying heritage buildings throughout Toronto and Ontario. Their love of wood, the beauty of nature, as well as industrial design, were the building blocks for The Pine Shack. Inspired by a summer sunset, the unique grain of a piece of wood, the sound of waves lapping the shore and a loon at sunset is their inspiration. The contrast of cold, industrial steel warmed by rustic timbers, the simple yet warm cottage designs that can beautify the most urban downtown Toronto condo as well as a Georgian Bay or Muskoka Cottage, is what we do! We make each piece to your specific requirements both in size and stain or paint colour too. You will be surprised to see that we have managed to keep our prices affordable for everyone’s budget.
