Donation Call Out!

Glasgow Square Theatre is looking for a community member who might have something like what’s pictured below—an old-style console record player—for a special project at the theatre.

The record player doesn’t need to be operational—any contribution is appreciated! We can also arrange pick-up for your convenience.

If you’re able to help, please reach out to [email protected].

Creative Pictou County would like to extend our support for the team at New Glasgow's Art at Night after their difficult decision to take a break for 2026.

This incredibly successful event is run by a small group of volunteers who donate their time and efforts to make this festival happen.

What we see on festival day is thousands of attendees engaging with local artists and musicians.
What we don't see are the countless hours of communication with artists, with the town of New Glasgow, multiple venues, volunteers to help with set up and take down as well as planning the layout and marketing.
All other Art at Night festivals across Atlantic Canada have paid staff to manage these logistics.

Please help support the arts in your community by signing up to volunteer when they make the call for 2027. The volunteer pool is shrinking, and especially in rural communities, these events are crucial.

Art at Night has provided a platform for so many youth and emerging artists over the years and we hope to see the festival continue and grow.
Thank you to all who have been involved over the years, we look forward to seeing what 2027 brings!

Today is Giving Tuesday and for the second year in a row, we want to share with our community what we have been up to for 2025.

This year, we paid out over $30,000 to artists, a ✨150%✨ increase from 2024! Two major projects where a lot of this funding came from were Stories Across Generations (funded by Arts NS) and Artistry in Action (funded by the department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage).

We engaged over 2,500 people in 2025! Through events we organized ourselves (over 45!) and those we participated in that were presented by community partners.
The community was able to take a workshop, view a piece of art in a gallery exhibition, get a behind the scenes look at an artists practice and witness the power of storytelling through art.

We are so very grateful to our community partners, sponsors and artists who support Creative Pictou County as we continue to grow. Thank you for joining us on our journey!

Where has the time gone? It’s hard to believe that Glasgow Square will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026, and we’re gearing up for some exciting events to mark the occasion. Since opening its doors in 2001, Glasgow Square has been a cornerstone of arts, culture and community life in New Glasgow. Over the years, it has hosted unforgettable concerts, festivals, theatre performances and waterfront gatherings that have helped shape the cultural heartbeat of our town.

Program, Culture & Events Manager Morgan Simms shared, “Glasgow Square turning 25 is something truly special. I’ve been fortunate to spend my time here working with so many amazing people in our community, including artists, volunteers, partners and residents who help make this venue what it is. Glasgow Square has created countless memorable moments over the years, and I’m excited to see what the future holds. We’re planning some great events to celebrate where we’ve been and where we’re going, and I can’t wait to share it all with everyone.”

As we look ahead to 2026, we’re excited to honour its history, celebrate its impact and share all the exciting things on the way. Stay tuned… the countdown to 25 years starts now!

📅 Mark your calendars for October 11!
The Hector is coming home!

After 3 months away, and with the work on our wharf at the Hector Heritage Quay now complete, the Hector will be returning to her home to continue her restoration journey.

🚢 Her voyage from Pier B back to our wharf begins at 11 AM.
Come join us in person to witness this historic moment — or watch the live stream on our page if you can’t make it.

This homecoming marks the beginning of the next phase of restoration, which will begin in earnest next spring and include stepping the masts, rigging, sails, and ship’s systems.

💙 Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have reached 75% of our fundraising goal — but we still need your help to see the Hector fully restored and sailing. The Hector is 100% funded by private donations from people like you.

Thank you for your ongoing support — together, we can bring this piece of our history to life!
