This rocking chair has been part of our family since I was in grade 6.
My mom fell in love with it at an auction in Kingston nearly 40 years ago, and because it rained that day, she ended up being the only one bidding. I remember her being over the moon about her big score, this Mission-style rocker, an antique dresser & mirror (that we still have) for just $100.
Fast forward four decades, and we’re still just as excited about this piece. Likely early 1900s, built from solid oak in the Arts & Crafts era. The original floral had its charm, but it was starting to show wear, and the chair needed some proper rebuilding beneath the surface. Leslie at Grandmother’s Couch brought it back to life from the inside out, rebuilding the seat and restoring the structure so it feels as good as it looks.
Choosing the fabric is always the fun part, and maybe the hardest when there are so many good options. We wanted something that respected the chair’s age and style, with a bit of a lighter, more playful feel. This vintage-inspired dog print from Clarke & Clarke felt like the right balance.
We’re thrilled to introduce upholstery services in partnership with Grandmother’s Couch. To celebrate, we’re offering 20% off upholstery services until June 30th.
If you have a well-loved piece at home, this is a beautiful way to give it a second life. Come in and explore thousands of fabrics and find something that feels just right for your space. 💛
