Fox starred as Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties from 1982 to 1989 and as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy, then led Spin City from 1996 to 2000. He has won five Primetime Emmy Awards, four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Grammy.

Diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's in 1991 at age 29, he went public in 1998 and founded his research foundation in 2000 with Brooks, a former Goldman Sachs executive who has served as its CEO. It has since funded more than three billion dollars in research, and roughly 180 Parkinson's drug programs are now in human testing.

The Academy gave him the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in November 2022, and he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in January 2025. He is currently Emmy nominated for his guest role on Shrinking opposite Ford, and returns for season four.
