Important meetings with the Canadian government, as well as some members of the opposition parties, were held this week to raise awareness about the Canadian furniture industry’s challenges. Last week the furniture industry faced multiple company closures due to tariffs, dumping of foreign products, and a slowing consumer demand. It was announced that steel, aluminum and copper will receive Canadian government support, but that aid doesn’t go far enough to help all the other struggling manufacturing SMEs. As the chair of the furniture manufacturers association, I will continue to work with our members, the board, our CEO, and staff to actively lobby the government to rapidly implement additional measures to protect and support the growth of our amazing domestic manufacturing industry.
