My real job is in film, and after I finished X-Men: Apocalypse in fall 2015 I needed to do something completely different between contracts.

I had made a rustic dining table for our Plateau Montreal apartment a couple of years ago. We have Airbnb guests, and Jo and I like welcoming them to our home over a tea or coffee. The table I had from when I was at Western University was an IKEA table and was too small and falling apart.

I decided to make a table for us, and it has been a great way to share meals with friends, guests and family.

Then almost as an after-thought, I put a photo of our table up on Kijiji. People started placing orders and started making the tables in my backyard. I’d put them in the trunk of my car and deliver them to customer in Montreal. They have been selling every day since.
