From Family Roots to Local Growth at BNB Coatings and Concrete
At BNB Coatings and Concrete, family has always been part of the foundation. Now, with help from her husband, parents, and sister, Brooke is continuing what her parents started more than 20 years ago, growing the business while keeping the same focus on quality work, local customers, and hands-on service.
“It’s been great taking over,” Brooke says. “At times a little overwhelming, but overall, really great!”
While the business originally focused on epoxy and polyaspartic coatings, Brooke has expanded its services, becoming a certified rubber paving installer and bringing even more options to local customers.
“For garages, basements, decks, bathrooms, and more, we offer an epoxy/polyaspartic combo to ensure our customers get both protection and durability. It is completely chemical- and salt-resistant, easy to clean, and helps protect your concrete from spalling.”
The company’s rubber paving services have also become a popular option for outdoor spaces like patios, sidewalks, and driveways. The material also helps reduce ice buildup during winter months and offers excellent salt resistance—an important feature for our Saskatchewan winters (and spring!).
"Our rubber paving is an excellent option for outdoor walkways, driveways, concrete patios, and more. It provides an alternative to ripping out and pouring new concrete, allowing you to easily restore your existing sidewalk to its former glory in a more cost-effective way. We also offer a huge variety of colour options for both products," shared Brooke.
But beyond the products themselves, Brooke says what also matters is the work behind them.
"Every floor is like a new piece of artwork, and one of a kind; there is no project that looks the same," she explained. "I love being able to give that kind of quality to my customers."
Proper prep work, she says, is what determines how long a coating will truly last. It’s one of the reasons she and her family are willing to spend extra time on a project if needed.
“The values my parents passed down to me would be giving the best quality work that we can do,” she says. “If that means adding another day to our timeline to ensure every customer gets the best floor possible, then that’s what we do.”
That family-first mindset carries through every part of the business. Brooke handles everything from advertising and customer communication to quotes and much of the physical work herself, often with help from her husband, mom, dad, and sister whenever they can step in.
“There is a tremendous amount of work involved in running a business of this kind,” she explained. “But I want to make sure I get it right from start to finish.”
Owning this type of business, while being a mom of three kids ages five and under, has allowed Brooke to build a life centered around her own young family.
“I can have a more flexible schedule, allowing me to have time with my kids while also working around my customers’ schedules,” she says.
She also believes strongly in supporting local businesses and keeping communities thriving by investing back into them. Last year, she donated a gift certificate to Kinder Kollege’s “12 Days of Christmas” fundraiser and hopes to continue giving back in the future.
“Supporting local is one of the biggest ways to keep small businesses and family-run businesses alive,” Brooke shared.
One of her proudest achievements since taking over the company came when BNB Coatings and Concrete became accredited with the Better Business Bureau, something she says meant a great deal to her personally.
“Being able to say I follow the standards of what is required to be a quality and trustworthy business owner really means a lot,” she says.
So, while BNB Coating may be built on concrete coatings and paving, it’s also built on family, trust, and pride in doing things the right way!
