each night.

Entelecy
I have thought of myself as angry
I have thought of myself as struggling to survive.
I have thought of myself as driven,
on a mission, ferociously restless.
I have thought of myself as abandoned,
as unloveable, as rejected, as strange, as an alien being,
as hard as granite stone, as fragile as a frosted flower.
I have thought of myself as alone,
wandering in my wilderness
without a map unable to hear the voice of God.
I have thought of myself as strong, growing, capable, brilliant, expansively creative,
on fire.
I have thought of myself
as something
that needs protecting.
At every hour vigilant.
Until I fell away.
Until I fell away from myself.
And then there was just sweet silence.
And then I sat in the flowing warmth of
not knowing.
And then I heard only the sweet silence
speak "be love, breathe."
No One.

Once in University a boy leaned forward
squinted his eyes
sat silent
then said
"You have never been laid back, have you?"
I didn't understand him then.
