A helpful solution to working from home with babies or school aged children...
How many of us are balancing working from home during this pandemic and successful in keeping the two dynamics of work and home, separate?
Although this presents its challenges, perhaps going with the flow could be an option.
Many of us need to make phone calls and be on zoom for various meetings however when we are emailing and advertising / promoting, billing and such, this is an opportunity for focused multi-tasking.
While your little one is asleep in his or her carrier, your office is the perfect place! Right near by where you can be quiet together. This keeps them close, gives them a feeling of security and you can keep an eye on them while getting your work done. Keep a small caddy with diaper changing supplies, soother, toys and anything else required for your tiny one.
If they are mobile, a playpen and more stimulating options as well as snacks would be handy right there in your office. The idea is that while you are in your designated work space, there are less household distractions for you.
If you have an older child who is completing online school during the day, you may want to bring in a table or small desk for them to work side by side with you. This way you can keep an eye on your kids and get some work done congruently. Earphones may be necessary to help you both focus. If small frequent breaks are needed for each of you to stay on track then I say, whatever works!
If your home office is too small then you could setup a larger designated office space elsewhere in the home if possible. This way you could incorporate everyone in your new work space until your needs change. Boundaries and a few small rules may have to be incorporated and could be much more conducive to focused work when you have everything at your fingertips.
Good luck!
